Infomercial

The Gotham Steel infomercial claims that nothing will stick to this pan and everything slides right out of it. During the infomercial, parmesan cheese is melted directly in the pan and it just slides right out. The same thing happened when a Smores dip was put in the oven. It was made up of chocolate chips, milk and marshmallows which are placed in the oven and the whole concoction slides right out of the pan. If you need even more convincing about this pan then here it is. Three peppermints are melted in the pan with their plastic wrappers on and they can be wiped right out of the pan - nothing sticks.

How Non-Stick Works

The most popular non-stick cookware surface consists of a thin layer of Teflon, also known as polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). Recently health concerns have been raised over the use of PTFE, thus most manufactures duplicate its properties with an alternative fluoropolymer.

Gotham Steel Pans are PFOA and PFOS-free.

Regardless of what combination of materials, metals, or coatings a pan uses; they stop food from sticking to the surface is by preventing bonding at a molecular level. Such bonding naturally occurs under high-heat conditions.

Remember: Any pan will stick, it is the coating applied to the pan which prevents sticking.

Sticks After 9 Uses?

No! It does not stick after 9 uses. Truth be told, there is no magic number of times the pan can be used before losing its non-stick qualities. There have been a number of real customer reviews (as seen below) which state the pan stuck for them on the very first use; while others claim to have used the pan flawlessly for over a month. It's Not a Miracle Pan; you get what you pay for.

How to Season Gotham Steel Pan

It is commonly known that cast Iron pans need to be seasoned.

However, it is also recommended to season non-stick pans as well.

Nonstick coatings wear off with time. Seasoning will significantly help extend the life of nonstick pans!

Seasoning helps to fill in any pits or inconsistencies that have developed in the finish. Often times there exist blemishes which are invisible to the naked eye.

Most non-stick pans come pre-seasoned and ready for use; however, re-seasoning a pan will confirm that the process was conducted properly rather than relying on the process completed at mass by the factory.

What you'll need to season a non-stick pan:
- Water
- Teaspoon
- Paper towel
- Soap
- Cooking Oil
- Stove Top

Seasoning Instructions

  • Wash

    - Wash the pan using warm water with a mild dish soap. Do not scrub the pan.
Ensure to use a soft, non-abrasive cloth.
This will remove any particles or debris that could interfere with the seasoning process.

  • Dry

    - Thoroughly dry the pan with a clean paper towel. Ensure not to just move the water around into smaller areas.
Continually switch to a new paper towel until you are able to wipe everywhere on the pan and absorb any water.

  • Heat

    - Place the pan on a stove top. Set the temperature to low for approximately 30 seconds.

  • Remove from Heat

    - Remove the pan from the heat source and turn off the stove top.

  • Add Oil

    - Measure-out one tablespoon of oil and pour it into the cooling / recently heated pan while it is still warm.
    - Cooking or vegetable oil is recommended specifically for non-stick cooking surfaces.
    - Gently spread the oil around the pan to evenly coat the entire surface.

  • Wait

    - Allow the oil to dry for several minutes. The oil will form a thick consistency once it cools down.

  • Repeat

    - Repeating this seasoning process every few months will help to maintain the pan's integrity.

Conclusion

  • Have realistic expectations.
  • Read real customer reviews, not just website reports.
  • Educate yourself on pan care.

With today's technology, most pans which cost between $20-$40 each will equally perform. As Seen on TV pans are no different. Pans such as Gotham Steel, Orgreenic, Red Copper, or Slip Stone all work great if they are properly cared for. Do not expect a $20 pan to be invincible, or last a lifetime.

Decide what you want:

a. If you want a pan that will last for years purchase the most expensive T-Fal set you can find; but don't expect your eggs to be sliding 'As Seen on TV'. Also, even T-Fal pans will quickly start to stick if they are not properly used and cared for.

b. If you want the As Seen on TV effect of a frying pan which appears as slick as ice; treat it properly, educate yourself on pan care and don't expect it to last a lifetime.

End State:
1. You get what you pay for.
2. The pan is worth the price.
3. Any cookware will fail if not cared for.

How it's Different from Competitors

Gotham Steel uses a combination of an ultra non-stick ceramic and super strong titanium to create a unique, durable and scratch resistant cooking surface.

Tips & Tricks

  1. 90 Day Guarantee

This product is backed by a 90-day money back guarantee. If you are not totally satisfied with its performance, you are able to return Gotham Steel for your money back.

  2. Special Offer

Gotham Steel is available in a special double offer. You may choose this option and you will get a second Gotham Steel fry pan for only a small fee.

Complaints

  1. False Advertising

One customer complained that the product did not perform at all like it was advertised and that anything they tried to cook with Gotham Steel just ended up burning to the pan. Frustrated, they threw the pan in the trash.

  2. Doesn't Last

There were several complaints that Gotham Steel lost its non-stick coating after being used several times.

One customer claimed that they used the pan to cook pancakes. The first couple of pancakes, slide off with no problem; however, after that, they started to stick more and more with each use.

It seems that this product's non-stick cooking fades once it has been heated a few times.

  3. Handle

There was at least one complaint that a customer thought that Gotham Steel's handle was too small and said that they had difficulty holding the pan.

  4. Easily Scratched

One customer claimed that the pan was easily scratched after using it only a few times.

  5. Waste of Money

There are many bad reviews about this product claiming that it does not live up to its non-stick advertising. Many customers were disappointed with this product's performance and claimed to have thrown it in the trash.

  6. Warps

There were several complaints that the Gotham Steel frying pan is very thin, flimsy and warps after a couple of uses.

  7. Hard to Clean

There was at least one complaint where a customer stated that once the non-stick coating wore off, the pan became very hard to clean.

Alternatives

  • Zwilling Ceramic Non-stick Pan

This is another similar non-stick frying pan. At just over nine inches in diameter, this durable pan with 3 ply construction is perfect for frying eggs without burning them.

This pan features a flared rim for easy, non-drip pours and has a brushed stainless steel finish.

  • California Home Goods Pan

This product also uses a durable titanium and ceramic fusion to provide you with an extra durable, non-stick cooking surface. It is scratch resistant and PTFE, PFOA, and PFOS free.

Critical Advice

Even though Gotham Steel is advertised as a non-stick frying pan, it is still a good idea to make sure that you are not cooking anything above the recommended temperature for that specific food. Always cook on the lowest possible setting that will still properly cook your food without burning it.

It is always a good idea to keep children out of the kitchen while you are cooking. This product should not be used by any children without adult supervision.

Don't Believe Ad

We bought a two pan set of fry pans at Costco last year and for the first use, I made scrambled eggs. The eggs stuck to the pan. Neither pan has lived up to its "non-stick" claims.

Trashed After 15 Uses

Have now trashed both frying pans as they both stick after maybe 15 uses. The commercial is not truthful or I received defective pans. I received these pans as a gift and did not know where to return or I would have. Scramble eggs are the worst. Shame on Gotham.

Falsely Advertised as "non-stick"

Maintained exactly as recommended. Bought the entire set. My bad. Real rip off. Pans are well made physically, but definitely and not non-stick. That property goes away very quickly, if it ever existed, to begin with.

Elderly User

Handles are very hard on old, arthritic hands. It would be nice to have an adapter to slide over the handle to stop it from digging into the hand. Pans are heavy adding to the discomfort.

Food Sticks Badly

Eggs, veggies, fish, chicken, beef. Everything sticks to these pans. Burn Marks impossible to remove. We bought these to protect our pet birds from PTFE fumes, but the "non-stick" feature is awful. It will actually ruin foods like fish because they stick so badly. I'm not sure how they can get away with advertising that it's non-stick.

No Good!

I purchased the set in January 2019. Used this frying pan for the first time today and it stuck to the pan and now the pan is damaged. They only have 30 return policy and can not find any way to return or exchange this defective pan. I am so disappointed!

It Sticks Worse Than a Regular Pan!

I got the pan and tried to cook an egg. It stuck so bad I couldn't even flip it. I had to scramble it up just to get it out of the pan. Then I read that you have to season the pan (I would like to have known that before buying, because I like to wash with soap) and it burned oil on the pan so badly that it now won't come off. I've had the pan for like 45 min. Worst product ever.

Must now use non Stick Spray Every Use!

My husband's daughter gave us two frying pans, one small, the other large. Not only does the non-stick fail within months (used for eggs, stir fry, pancakes, french toast, and grilled sandwiches) when used several times a week, it is now impossible to even get it completely clean. Only silicone, soft plastic or wood utensils used, never used above medium, never put in the oven, and washed with plain dish soap and water. The coating is not scratched or Marred in any way, but this is no longer even close to a non-stick pan - even pancakes stick if not sprayed between EACH pancake, and in some cases, between flips of the same pancake. The large frypan has actually lost its flat bottom, and cups upwards by several millimetres. Now that it has lost its non-stick properties this is an issue as any oil or grease used runs to the outer rim, and does not keep the centre lubricated. Actually frying noodles or eggs is a joke, unless practically deep fried in oil, they will stick, even non-stick spray is no longer doing the trick with these items. This is also why they no longer come clean, and even when forced to use a "Scrub Daddy" or green sheet scrubby, it is no longer a completely clean or pristine pan, on the interior - it is covered with dark flecks, particularly along the raised interior portion (pan lip), where it is impossible to keep it greased. For what we paid, and how it was touted, this is a rip-off. No better than any other non-stick pan. Good for a few months at best.

Gotham Steel fry pan

Was totally disappointed in this fry pan. As far as I am concerned it is false advertising they use. Food stuck on second use and I noticed scratches in the coding after two or three uses. Kept using it and it just got worse. Garbage don't buy it.

Shame on False Advertising

I have tried 4 different pans. All could not pass the one-time use test. 2nd-time food was beginning to stick. By the fourth time, it was just like any other pan. Worthless. Don't get suckered into buying them.

This product purchased at Walmart, had me trying to remove eggs that stuck to the pan, it is not worth the money and is a rip-off. Please let Walmart check on this and test it themselves, I would have more fun throwing my 20. 00 out the window an watch it floats away. Do not buy this product.

Cast Iron Proves to Still be Best!

Bought one for myself and one for a friend after watching the advertisement, can't go wrong, right? Wrong. Money back guarantee, can't go wrong, right? Wrong again. Neither new pan worked as it did on the tv advertisement. Not even close. Tried to re-season the pans but unless I cooked right over the oil or butter everything, I mean everything stuck. Eggs did ok if I had oil in the pan, did a side by side comparison with my 50-year-old cast iron pan. Cast iron won easily. Oh and the money back thing they lie about? How do they get away with this rip-off? They do make for a good target for sighting in guns though. Fyi, bullets do not stick to the pan. This was such a rip-off, and they do not honor the money back guarantee. I suggest go get grandma's cast iron skillet. They still work best in any situation!
