Warnings

  • Do Not Use Cooking Spray

Infomercial

The Gotham Steel infomercial claims that nothing will stick to this pan and everything slides right out of it. During the infomercial parmesan cheese is melted directly in the pan and it just slides right out. The same thing happened when a Smores dip was put in the oven. It was made up of chocolate chips, milk and marshmallows which are placed in the oven and the whole concoction slides right out of the pan. If you need even more convincing about this pan then here it is. Three peppermints are melted in the pan with their plastic wrappers on and they can be wiped right out of the pan - nothing sticks.

How Non-Stick Works

The most popular non-stick cookware surface consists of a thin layer of Teflon, also known as polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). Recently health concerns have been raised over the use of PTFE, thus most manufactures duplicate it's properties with an alternative fluoropolymer.

Gotham Steel Pans are PFOA and PFOS-free.

Regardless of what combination of materials, metals, or coatings a pan uses; they stop food from sticking to the surface is by preventing bonding at a molecular level. Such bonding naturally occurs under high-heat conditions.

Remember: Any pan will stick, it is the coating applied to the pan which prevents sticking.

Sticks After 9 Uses?

No! It does not stick after 9 uses. Truth be told, there is no magic number of times the pan can be used before losing its non-stick qualities. There have been a number of real customer reviews (as seen below) which state the pan stuck for them on the very first use; while others claim to have used the pan flawlessly for over a month. It's Not a Miracle Pan; you get what you pay for.

How to Season Gotham Steel Pan

It is commonly known that cast Iron pans need to be seasoned.

However, it is also recommended to season non-stick pans as well.

Nonstick coatings wear off with time. Seasoning will significantly help extend the life of nonstick pans!

Seasoning helps to fill in any pits or inconsistencies that have developed in the finish. Often times there exist blemishes which are invisible to the naked eye.

Most non-stick pans come pre-seasoned and ready for use; however, re-seasoning a pan will confirm that the process was conducted properly rather than reliying on the process completed at mass by the factory.

What you'll need to season a non-stick pan:
- Water
- Teaspoon
- Paper towel
- Soap
- Cooking Oil
- Stove Top

Seasoning Instructions

  • Wash

    - Wash the pan using warm water with a mild dish soap. Do not scrub the pan.
Ensure to use a soft, non abrasive cloth.
This will remove any particles or debris that could interfere with the seasoning process.

  • Dry

    - Thoroughly dry the pan with a clean paper towel. Ensure not to just move the water around into smaller areas.
Continually switch for new paper towel until you are able to wipe everywhere on the pan and absorb any water.

  • Heat

    - Place the pan on a stove top. Set the temperature to low for approximately 30 seconds.

  • Remove from Heat

    - Remove the pan from the heat source and turn off the stove top.

  • Add Oil

    - Measure-out one tablespoon of oil and pour it into the cooling / recently heated pan while it is still warm.
    - Cooking or vegetable oil is recommended specifically for non-stick cooking surfaces.
    - Gently spread the oil around the pan to evenly coat the entire surface.

  • Wait

    - Allow the oil to dry for several minutes. The oil will form a thick consistency once it cools down.

  • Repeat

    - Repeating this seasoning process every few months will help to maintain the pan's integrity.

Conclusion

  • Have realistic expectations.
  • Read real customer reviews, not just website reports.
  • Educate yourself on pan care.

With today's technology, most pans which cost between $20-$40 each will equally perform. As Seen on TV pans are no different. Pans such as Gotham Steel, Orgreenic, Red Copper, or Slip Stone all work great if they are properly cared for. Do not expect a $20 pan to be invincible, or last a life time.

Decide what you want:

a. If you want a pan that will last for years purchase the most expensive T-Fal set you can find; but don't expect your eggs to be sliding 'As Seen on TV'. Also even T-Fal pans will quickly start to stick if they are not properly used and cared for.

b. If you want the As Seen on TV effect of a frying pan which appears as slick as ice; treat it properly, educate yourself on pan care and don't expect it to last a life time.

End State:
1. You get what you pay for.
2. The pan is worth the price.
3. Any cookware will fail if not cared for.

Gotham Pan

Gotham fry pan is not non stick. Everything sticks now after approximately 8 uses. I think it may be because the pan cannot take medium to high heat? If kept at low heat the non stick feature may be retained? Not sure, but as the pan is aluminium based, this is my best guess. Not worth the money and have told many people not to buy based on my experience.

Unsatisfied

I have had this pan for a few months now, and use it almost daily. It has become just another pan that I have to coat heavily with oil / butter, and even then, everything ( meat, eggs, bread ) sticks and has to be soaked to remove.
I purchased the 9.5" and 12.5". So far the problems have been with the smaller one only. Knock on wood.

Disappointed in 12 Inch Skillet

I have all 3 skillet sizes and the Dutch oven pans. All work fine except for the 12 inch skillet. It over heats at even the lowest temperatures. I can't use it most of the time because it easily burns the food. Even something as simple as pancakes. Can't return it because I don't recall who I purchased it from. I purchased all pieces individually at different times.

Sorry but I bought two of the Gotham Steel Loaf pans 9.7 X $5.75 x 2.8 I wanted them for making quick breads. I made two loaves of Banana Nut Bread, Baked at 375' and it was a disaster. Both loaves stuck. Had to scrape them out of the pan. Non Stick? I don't think so. Will use parchment paper in the future. I bought these pans at Bed Bath and Beyond. Not good for the price I paid.

I bought the set and have not used it, unsure of how many times to season the pans. My step mom loves her pan. I don't want my food to stick or burn. Do you ever use butter in the pan?

I have a Question

When I received my Gotham Steel pan and grill it came with a "Arbitration Agreement" pamphlet. It tells you that by ordering this product I agree that any dispute between me and Gotham Steel concerning the product shall be settled by binding individual arbitration. Etc. My question is, what is this all about? Is there something really wrong with these pans that they have to send you this notice along with the product?

Yes. There is something wrong with the pans. They do not work as advertised. AT all. Please pack the things up and send them back for a refund. Even if they work the first time, they will not work as advertised after a short amount of use. Mine never worked as advertised from day one. That's my advise and as far as I can tell, almost everyone who got these pans, hate them.

What it means is that you sign off on unqualified replacement once purchased. They basically are telling you that they will not last as advertised and that you can buy new ones, but don't try to get replacement without paying. It's a scam!

I have something to say!

Nice planted reviews, praising the pans. So fake. The pans are garbage and the commercial is a huge scam. Don't waste your money. If you want a great pan, get a cast iron pan or skillet, learn to to care for it and treat it, and it will last you forever.
