YouTube TV is an online live TV streaming service using YouTube as the online platform and partner. It’s similar to services like Netflix that provide on-demand content. However, the difference here is that you will be able to see all your favorite cable channels such as ESPN, Disney, NBC, ABC, FOX, amongst many other. There is a monthly subscription fee, but with the added benefit of being able watch your favorite shows wherever and whenever.
The one thing that usually comes in the way of our favorite shows is a restriction of time and place. Although we all love our shows we also want to be able to have the freedom of movement and not be restricted by time. You shouldn’t have to worry about getting home in time for a show. Nor should you have to worry about missing your show if you walked your dog that extra little bit.
With YouTube TV, that’s just what you can do. You can watch your shows live while on the go. One can even stream your entire library wherever you are and whenever you want to, as long as you have access to the internet.
We all know how annoying it can be to be limited by space when all you want to do is record your favorite show to simply finish watching it and move on to the next. Usually, one does not even care if it is deleted once you have actually watched it start to finish.
Well, with YouTube TV, this is not something that you should ever worry about. You can record and save as many of your favorite shows as you like without having to worry about space. The reason being, this service is provided using Google’s cloud space – YouTube itself being part of Google – and there is no fixed limit to the cloud space you can possibly use.
If you’re a family member or a person sharing accommodation with other house-mates, it’s understandable that you may not want to share your cloud space with the rest; they wouldn’t either. However, that’s not something you need to worry about, because once you subscribe to this service you will be provided with a total of six different accounts. Each of these accounts can have uniquely different logon credentials and a different cloud space assigned separately. So it doesn’t matter what each of these 6 users record and when they watch their content. You just share the subscription.
Most of us usually cannot stand being forced to watch ads right in between one’s favorite show that you might have been waiting to watch for days. In fact, just when you sit down to get your eyes glued to the TV, an ad is what you see. So the developers of this unique service came up with a quite a nifty little solution. Even though there are bound to be YouTube ads showcasing on this YouTube TV service – since the makers of these videos need a source of revenue – you can quite simply fast-forward these ads.
If you want to watch a show live, all you need to do is fast-forward or pause it when there’s an ad, and then return back to the program and continue streaming past the ad.
It doesn’t matter what platform of operating system your device uses. With YouTube TV, you will be able to watch your shows on both, Android and iOS devices. As a result, you could be sitting comfortably at home on your computer, or in the garden on your laptop, or even just out for a walk with your mobile phone, and it wouldn’t matter. This service even works with Google Chromecast and Home. All you need to do is to request Google Home to play your show using your Chromecast.
With this service, you will have the luxury of being able to pick and choose your favorite shows from a huge total of 40 networks, including 10 dedicated sports networks. Some of the channels, among the lot, are CBC, Fox, NBC, ESPN, NBCSN, Fox Sports and many more. USA and FX – cable players – will also be hosted via this service. Your favorite local channels will also be included, like local news channels, etc.
Due to the nature of this service, in order to allow customers to make the best of the cloud space provided by Google, users have the provision of recording multiple shows at the same time.
Even though the ads can be skipped, they are still present and cannot be totally removed from the service, as that is what generates the revenue needed to be able to air those videos. However, if you are a YouTube Red member and are currently availing of their subscription, then you will not see any ads along with the viewing of your shows.
Although you can very conveniently record your shows, please bear in mind that these shows might not be kept on Google’s cloud space for more than 9 months. So, please ensure that you watch all of your recorded shows within this nine month period.
Your country of residence might be a limiting factor on whether or not you are able to avail of this service. This service is only available to the geographical area of the US.
This service is only offered to those individuals who are at least 13 years of age and no less.
What’s more is you can even add your favorite shows or sporting event to your ‘favorites’ list and it would automatically get recorded for you to watch later, thus, saving you plenty of time. Thus, you can get the best of both worlds, your time at home and your social life outside your home, without having to lock yourself into contracts or obligations with cable companies or similar services.
Finally, unlike many other services, by paying an extra fee, you should also be able to add Showtime.
Even though YouTube Red would allow you to take advantage of certain entertaining features such as continuing to watch a video even though your phone is switched off, it has its limitations. If you are someone keen on watching live television or cable TV, then YouTube TV can provide just that, anytime, anywhere.
