The Yeti 3000 Portable Power Station is an extra high-capacity battery power storage device that can produce 1,500W of continuous power and 3,000W surges for devices demanding high-power. It's a large, yet portable lithium battery set inside a waterproof cover, with charging ports that can charge laptops, phones, and run a TV or a refrigerator if your power goes out. It comes with wheels and a handle, so you can roll it just like a suitcase. You can recharge the Yeti with a solar panel, or by plugging it into your home electrical system. Now WiFi-enabled, you can manage the Yeti 3000 from an app, turning ports on or off. This giant battery is great for power at outdoor festivals, camping, on hunting and fishing trips, or as a backup when the power goes out.

Positive Points

  • Vital Power

The Yeti 3000 gives people what they want: power to charge their phones and laptops anywhere.

Of course, should there be a power outage, this charging station can also be used to keep your refrigerator running so that food does not spoil.

  • WiFi Enabled

The new Yeti 3000 is WiFi-enabled, so you can connect it through a personal router or local wifi and control it. Download and use the Goal Zero Yeti App from the Apple store or Google Play store. With the app, you can turn ports on or off. You can update the firmware that controls the power station, or check the battery level. Everyone in the household can connect their phone to the Yeti 3000 if they want to. On the other hand, a single user can own multiple Yetis and control them through the app.

As an alternative, the app can sync with the Yeti by a direct connection for when there is no WiFi available.

  • Recharges Two Ways

The Yeti 3000 Power Station can be recharged by plugging into a regular electric outlet in your home. It can also be charged by connection to a solar panel.

There is also a third option: charging by attaching the power station to a 12-volt adapter with a special Yeti-brand cord. See the Warnings section about this.

  • Solar-Enabled

The Yeti 3000 Portable Power Station comes with an MPPT module, which optimizes power gathering from solar panels based on certain conditions. It makes sure you get the fastest charge if you are charging from a solar panel.

  • Water-Tight Battery Pack

The battery pack is enclosed in a water-tight envelope.

Negative Points

  • Not Super Portable

One user review states that it's good to carry the Yeti 3000 Portable Power Station in a car or camper. However, moving the power station around by itself, even with the wheels and handle, is difficult. Reviewing the tech specs for the product, it weighs 68.6 pounds. The rolling cart for it is another 8.9 pounds.

However, it seems that rolling a Yeti 3000 onto, say, the grounds of a music festival, makes sense. Backwoods usage might not make as much sense.

Warnings

  • 12-Volt Charging Specification

If you want to charge your Yeti 3000 Portable Power Station using a 12-volt adapter, you can, but don't use a regular connecting cord. You must use the Goal Zero Yeti Lithium 12V Car Charging Cable. An ordinary cable will cause damage to your battery unit.

How It Works

The battery inside the Yeti 3000 Portable Power Station is a lithium-ion battery designated as Li-ion NMC. That means lithium-ion nickel-manganese-cobalt. The Li-ion NMC is a cathode battery that has been exceedingly superior when compared to other batteries. Battery life-cycle is 500 times to 80% capacity and holds 3,075 watt-hours of power.

The charging ports are different types, including three different kinds of 5-volt USB ports, important for tablets, phones, or digital cameras. It also features USB-C power delivery, which can charge a laptop. Other ports include a car charger and an AC inverter to be used with DC power items (which may include solar panels).

Critical Advice

There are many other Yeti products that can integrate with the Yeti 3000 Portable Power Station. The power station is already costing in the thousands, but the manufacturer offers, for example, a "Fast Charge 25 Amp Power Supply. " This particular power supply would charge faster than your wall outlet but is a separate item you need to buy.

Yeti also sells "briefcases" containing solar panels that you can connect to your power station. These are priced in the several hundreds of dollars.

In order to charge from a 12-volt source such as a car charger, you are required to buy a Yeti Lithium 12V Car Charging Cable, or you can damage your Yeti 3000.

Furthermore, the official website mentions home energy storage and features a stack with four batteries. Simply put, Yeti may make excellent products of the power-storing variety, but once you buy one, you are more likely to buy another.
