Vac Mat

The Vac Mat is a doormat that uses polymer technology to grip dust, dirt, and grass from your feet or animals' paws and keep it at the door. Dust, dirt, and mud all stay on the mat and you can rinse it off to clean it. This prevents tracking of outdoor dirt onto carpets or tile in your home. It attaches to the floor with sticky sections on the bottom of the mat. There is no sticky residue on the mat surface, because the polymer surface remains slick while attracting dirt from your feet.

Total Cost Breakdown

The cost of Vac Mat is $39.99 plus $4.99 shipping. The special TV offer allows you to receive a second Vac Mat at the discounted price of only $4.99 for a total price of $49.97.

Features

  • Polymer Surface

The polymer surface, made of polyethylene, acts like little invisible suction cups for dirt, claims the advertisement. You can see this in the images in the advertisement featuring work boot prints with dirt stuck to the mat in an almost perfect print. If so much dirt came off the boots, there must not be that much left, one assumes.

  • Sticky Underside

The underside of the mat features sticky circles. Lay down the mat and it adheres to the spot and will not move or get kicked from in front of the door. This keeps dirt at the doorway.

Positive Points

  • Trap Dirt

Step on the Vac-Mat and dirt gets trapped on the mat, states the advertisement. This is based on what is termed Clean-Gel Technology. The manufacturer is not giving away the secret of what ingredients are in the clean-gel technology or how it is produced. However, it will grip and clean your shoes, and pets' feet too.

  • Dirt Stays on

You can shake the Vac-Mat and dirt won't come off of it onto the floor. Thus, you can eliminate the two-step process so often repeated by many of us. That is, there is no need to shake the mat, let the dirt fall on the floor, and then sweep or vacuum the floor and the mat.

  • 100% Recycled Mat

This mat is made from 100% recycled rubber on the bottom. You can feel good that it's a new form for old plastic. However, this is just the mat substrate. The clean-gel surface features new technology and new polymers. Luckily, the mat can also be re-used, so neither the recycled mat nor the new technology is disposed of right away.

Critical Advice

Make sure to step on the mat with both feet, which might not be a natural thing if you are walking right into the home or apartment. If you don't step on the mat with both feet, outside dirt will only be removed from one shoe. This will defeat the purpose of the mat.

Some people might not want to see the dust and dirt stuck to the mat. With a mat made with fibers, the dust and dirt fall between the fibers and disappear until vacuumed or dealt with. On the Vac-Mat, the visibly removed dirt will remain visible on the mat at the entrance to your home. It might require a lot of rinsing time to keep the mat looking good for company.

How it's Different from Competitors

This mat is similar to mats that are used when construction is being done in a home, for example, and workmen are likely to track dust and dirt inside the home. However, the Vac-Mat is more handsome, featuring a shiny black surface.

Many construction mats are white or bright blue and are known as tacky mats or sticky mats. These actually have a sticky feel to them. Probably, this product is what the advertisement refers to when it says that with the Vac-Mat, you do not get any sticky residue.

Some of the construction-related mats are of a disposable type. You peel the mat off at the end of the day and throw it away. On the other hand, the Vac-Mat can be rinsed and re-used. The Vac-Mat is also cheaper. There is a smaller competing pad for attaching things to walls, that uses gel technology called Stikk Gel. This product mentions it uses poly AB glue plastic, giving a hint into what might be used in the Vac-Mat.

Save Money

If you buy two Vac-Mats, the total cost per mat goes down. This would be helpful for a house with a front and back door, for example, or even an apartment with a front door and back porch. In this case, however, you do have to pay shipping and handling for the product, whether you buy one or two.

Does It Really Work?

You would have to try this mat to see if it removes some dirt, a lot of dirt, or really about 99% of all dirt from the shoes of people walking into the home. The same goes for pet paws. There is not a money-back guarantee mentioned on this ad, so it seems once you buy this mat you could try to return it, but there is no guarantee you would get your money back. It does appear from the pictures that a lot of outside debris and dirt is removed from shoes. In the end, it may depend on the homeowner's taste. Does the homeowner want a shiny, modern-looking mat or a traditional rug-type mat? Both require cleaning of one kind or another.
