The Ultimate Irish Peeler is a compact kitchen tool made mainly from green plastic that's been created to help users peel, slice, and grate various food items, such as cheese or vegetables. Aside from the green plastic grating station on the back of the hand-held tool, each tool also contains a sharp serrated blade at one end and an equally sharp julienne blade at the other. Plus, each one offers two loops that have been designed to help you remove stubborn "eyes" from potatoes.

How to Use (Step by Step)

  1. Choose Food Item to Work With

Before using your Ultimate Irish Peeler, you'll have to choose a food item to work with, such as a potato, a large squash, a cabbage, a head of garlic, or even a block of cheese. Basically, you can use this tool to slice, grate, or peel almost any type of food, aside from meat and bread products.

  2. Slice, Grate, or Peel

Once you've got your first food item ready, you'll need to decide whether you want to slice, grate, or peel it. For peeling, it's a good idea to use the serrated blade (the one without loops on each side). It's also best to pull the tool towards you to peel the sides of an item, and away from you to peel the top and bottom. The julienne blade on the other end will work best if you want to shred things like carrots, cabbage, or chocolate, and you'll see the grater in plain view on the top of the device.

  3. Rinse and Repeat (optional)

After you're finished grating, peeling, or slicing one food item, you'll be able to repeat the process with more foods, if need be, while switching blades or to the grater if necessary. If you peel, grate, or slice one vegetable after another, you may choose to forego rinsing your tool with water in between, but it's best to do so if you switch food types. Otherwise, you could transfer dairy residue to a different type of food, or simply end up mixing food flavors in an unsatisfying manner.

Features

  • Compact Size

The Ultimate Irish Peeler is no more than a couple of inches wide, at its widest part, and is just a few inches long. However, even though its grating station is much smaller than many stand-alone kitchen graters, its holes have been designed and positioned to grate food just as quickly and effectively. Due to this entire tool's small size, it won't take up a great deal of room in the kitchen drawer or cupboard that you opt to store it in.

  • Green

Unlike many kitchen tools that are black, white, or silver-gray, this one is bright green, so if you store yours in a crowded drawer, you'll be able to spot it quickly.

  • Ergonomic

Some peeling tools have an awkward shape that makes them hard to hold, especially for people with arthritis. These peelers can also slip easily and cause you to cut your fingers, and they may get stuck in a piece of food. On the other hand, the Ultimate Irish Peeler's ergonomic shape makes it comfortable for the human hand to hang onto, even if you do suffer from minor mobility issues. Holding the tool comfortably will give you more control than you'd have otherwise, so you'll be able to smoothly move the tool along if it momentarily stops in its tracks.

  • For Tough and Soft Food

This three-function tool is gentle enough that it won't squish soft foods, such as tomatoes, but at the same time, it's powerful enough to slice up harder foods, like potatoes. As a result, you'll be able to find multiple uses for it in your kitchen, and you may even feel the need to utilize it at breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

  • Comes in Multi-device Sets

You can obtain one of these peeling tools on its own, but it's also available in sets of two, three, or four, so you'll be able to choose the set that best suits your needs. If you obtain more than one, and you have a multi-person household, that'll enable more than one person to peel, slice, or grate at once before your mealtime.

Positive Points

  • Grater is Finger-safe

If you've got children, you may not want them to use the blades on either end of this tool, but the grater in the middle is actually made completely of plastic. Consequently, it won't be able to cut anyone's fingers. If you want to introduce children or other novice cooks to this tool without putting them at risk, place it on a counter with the grater facing upward. Following that, you can have them grate a small block of cheese or a head of garlic while only touching the safe center of the tool with their hands.

  • Completely Human-powered

The Ultimate Irish Peeler is powered completely by the human hand, so you won't need batteries or electricity to allow it to assist you in the kitchen. That means this tool's a good one to bring along with you to a campsite or cottage where you may not have electricity, or to a workplace where you don't have guaranteed access to it.

  • Potato Spiral Tool Included

With each peeling tool, you'll also get a second tool that's known as the Ultimate Irish Potato Spiral. By inserting this free tool into the top of a potato and spinning it around and around until you reach the bottom, you'll be able to create a spiral-shaped potato. You'll then be able to cook and crisp this potato and consume it as a sort of spiral-shaped French fry. Like the peeling tool, the spiral tool is bright green, and it's even smaller than the three-in-one peeler, grater, and slicer.

Negative Points

  • No Blade Covers

The blades on each end of this tool are very sharp, but there are no blade covers included with each device, so you'll have to keep the tool out of the reach of children. Otherwise, a child could accidentally pick it up and quickly cut their fingers on one of the blades. Even as an adult, you must be careful while picking the tool up yourself, and always pick it up by its center as opposed to either end.

Critical Advice

As you use this tool to slice or peel various food items, you may notice that bits of food get stuck in the blades. If these food bits don't fall out while you rinse your tool with water or give it a shake over your sink, you'll need to clean them out yourself. You must never use your fingers to do so, though, even if you're wearing gloves. Instead, hang onto the handle of a kitchen knife or fork and use the utensil to push the food bits out of the blades.
