UCool works as a personal cooling device. This device uses evaporation to keep consumers cool and comfortable when the weather outside is hot. Before wearing it, you get the whole thing wet with regular water, then put it around your neck. You can wear it as long as you need to keep cool. The coolness comes from the heat-wicking fabric which removes the heat and replaces it with cool air from the evaporation system it has.

Total Cost Breakdown

The cost of Ucool is $19.95 plus $7.95 shipping. The special TV offer allows you to receive a second Ucool by paying an extra fee of $5.95 for a total price of $33.85.

  • Removes Heat

This personal cooling device claims to remove heat from your body and replace that heat with the refreshing cool feeling. Constructed out of heat wicking fabric, this product also claims to use super conductive fins. Said fins are responsible for removing the heat out of your body and replacing the heat from your body with the cool feelings. If you choose to wear this device around your neck it will allegedly keep you cool in warmer weather without the use of electric fans or the need for regular ice packs.

When you buy uCool from the official website it costs you twenty dollars plus an additional eight in shipping and handling. The unfortunate part is that you automatically get their “free” second unit, which charges you another six dollars in separate shipping. You have no option for getting out of this and are stuck with the total cost of thirty four dollars for the two units.

You cannot find this product in stores which means you are unable to buy it without incurring the additional shipping and handling costs. What’s more, since you cannot buy it in stores, again, you cannot get out of the double offer.

Does It Really Work?

Whether or not this product works is debatable, depending on where you live. The device uses evaporation, as mentioned, to keep you cool. This means that if you live in a place that has a dry and humid climate, you will get different results compared to living in other climates. In warmer, desert climates these devices work well outdoors because the air is quite dry and therefore there is a higher rate of evaporation. However, if you reside in a humid environment then this device will not give you much relief aside from the immediate relief you get putting on the cold device around your neck.

  • Personal Cooling Devices

There are many personal cooling systems today. The most basic is a personal fan. These are handheld fans which run on batteries and the batteries allow it to convert the wind on your body. Fans like these do not work as effectively in hotter areas either because they only circulate the air around you. So if you are in a place with hot air, these move the hot air around you.

Another alternative personal cooling system is called Enduracool which is another as seen on tv product, one which is electric and relies on evaporation to a lesser degree.

  • Sharper Image

Sharper Image has a personal cooling system which uses the same combination of fan and evaporation system. It uses anti-bacterial fabric and fits around the neck. Instead of the same flexible fabric though, this one is made of aluminum. On it is a refillable water bottle that can be refilled every two to four hours as necessary when you wear it. This means it lasts a bit longer compared to the uCool system.

How it's Different from Competitors

When the body overheats, it begins to generate perspiration. This perspiration is the body’s way of cooling itself down. Achieving this is done by sweating, and then having that sweat evaporate with air movement. As such, when this happens, the body’s temperature is naturally cooled down. UCool uses this process and integrates it into a wearable product such that you no longer have to perspire heavily for the natural evaporation process to take place and cool you down. When the body begins to heat up, the special heat wicking fabric draws it away from the body and replaces it with the coolness, which leaves your body temperature lower.
