Pros

  • No Chemicals

In many cases curlers take a great deal of time and effort not to mention harsh chemicals to make them stay. While you will not be able to get the same variety for the same tightness in the curls, you still have the opportunity to enjoy bouncing curls in your hair. Without having to use harsh chemicals and without having to use a great deal of time.

  • Comfortable

These are soft and therefore quite comfortable. When you're keeping them on overnight it can be difficult because of how painful traditional curlers are to sleep on. However, in this case the curlers are much more comfortable and you won't notice them while you were sleeping.

Cons

  • No Variety in Thickness

You have no control over the tightness of the curl. Normally with curlers you get a variety of shapes and with curling irons you get a variety of thicknesses that you can use to change the curls you get on top of your head. This is what lets you flex between wavy curls or very tight curls. With these curlers you do not have that option so you will only get one size.

  • Not for Fine Hair

People who have very straight, fine hair that doesn't hold a curl very well may not get the same results from these curlers.

How It Works

Before the invention of modern curlers the way that people achieve curls or waves in their hair was by simply pinning in place overnight and letting it dry that way. The hair is very flexible such that you can pin it in almost any shape or pattern and let it dry. Normally hair will stay in that shape especially if it is dirtier and has the natural oils to help hold the shape.

It is for this reason that historically women would use things like bobby pins to simply twist their hair up and pin in place overnight. This set of curlers alongside many other curlers uses the same no heat technology that was once used by every woman. By twisting the hair in the band and leaving it overnight you can achieve shorter and tighter curls without any chemicals or heat. Heat free curling is a much better way to get curls because it doesn't damage your hair the same way that any heat based curling process damages.

How it's Different from Competitors

These curlers are different from other heatless curlers in so far as they don't have the plastic frame that most soft foam curlers have. The plastic frame is usually what ends up poking the scalp while you try to sleep with me quite uncomfortable. Using bobby pins can do the same thing. As such this particular design has no plastic frame or otherwise harsh tips which can stab the scalp while you sleep. That makes it easy to use all night long and much less painful.

How to Use (Step by Step)

  1. Grab Wand

Each of these curlers are actually bands that flex and stretch. You want to take the wand and run it through one of the bands at a time.

  2. Loop Your Hair

Once you have done that you loop your hair through the circular tip of the band that you will see at the end. After that, run it along the length of the curler through the inside of the tube.

  3. Curl

Once this is done the one will be removed and the flat curler will bounce up on top of your head.

  4. Let Dry

Leave them in overnight to dry, or blow dry them for faster results.

  5. Remove

In the morning simply tug on them and they will pull free without any kinks or damage to your hair, leaving a sweet bounce in its place.

Tips & Tricks

  1. Strand Size

The smaller the strands, the smaller the curls and loops you will get when the curlers are taken out. Of course you do have a limited number of curlers in each set. So it might take some practice for you to figure out the appropriate thickness for each strip of hair that you run through the curler.

Alternatives

  • Flexible Curling Rods

There is one set of flexible curling rods which come in multiple shapes and thicknesses so that you can use it on wet hair or dry hair. These are made for medium lightweight foam and all of the rods are 7 inches long but they vary in terms of thickness which allows you variety in terms of the tightness of curls. With these flexible bands you do not have to use any chemicals. Some people think that they are less comfortable to sleep in because of the unique shape they create.

To use them to roll a strand of your hair up the middle of the flexible rod. When you reach yourself you simply hold the two ends of the rod to create a "U" shape which holds in place while you were sleeping. Alternatively you can blow dry it if you want the girls to happen faster.

  • Curlformers

Curl formers offers long spiral curls that have a similar design and also have the same flexible shape. They are ideally suited for air up to 14 inches long. There's a styling hook that you need which is sold separately but otherwise it works in exactly the same fashion as these.
