This cutting board is made from natural bamboo making it lightweight but still dense enough to withstand knife scarring. How It Works
Two main cutting board surfaces come with the Top Chop Board, the main cutting surface with the scale and timer, and a smaller cutting board stored underneath the main one. As the smaller cutting board has high edges on three sides with an open side for getting prepped food easily into a pot or pan, it is a good prep board. The smaller board also contains a UV light. The main cutting board has a juice catch groove and a larger surface area for proteins or fruits. If you invert the smaller board and place it on top of the main board, you can activate the sanitize feature. As the smart functions are only typically used during direct meal prep, the battery goes a long way, and the UV function works on a timer making it hard to drain the power accidentally.

You can run water and soap over the entire board without damaging the scale/timer interface or UV lighting.

- Unclear Sharpening Distinction
The board comes with both a ceramic and diamond sharpener but no distinction between the two on the board itself.
- Sanitization
While the UV light will sanitize the work surface no problem, it can only reasonably sanitize one side of a knife at a time, making it less effective than it could be.
- UV Function
The connection needed between the inverted small cutting board and the main board to turn on the UV light may be finicky. Even if magnetized in place, the UV function will not turn on unless it is perfectly lined up.
- Weight
This is a nearly 7lb cutting board. It is sturdy and well constructed, but heavy and a bit bulky.
How it's Different from Competitors
Top Chop Board appears to be the only cutting board that features a built-in smart panel and scale. It also appears to be the only wooden cutting board with two different built-in sharpening options. While there are some efficacy concerns with the UV lighting, the control panel itself is intuitive and easy to use. Top Chop Board is a sustainable product made from 100% recycled bamboo and can easily be recycled again, should it need to be, by removing the electronics.
Durability
As this board is made of strong, low maintenance bamboo, it is intended to be a lifetime product. However, while bamboo is water-resistant and the electronics in the Top Chop Board are sealed to make the surface of the cutting board waterproof, it is not dishwasher safe. Both the chemicals and the high heat of a dishwasher can ruin this product. If used and cleaned to its specifications, this cutting board should last. Luckily, components that are expected to wear out have already been identified and made easy to replace. The bamboo material also doesn't stain and doesn't retain smell or flavor from previous meals.
Concerns
- No Automatic Shut Off
While the UV light is on a timer, the board itself does not have an automatic shut off feature. It is quite bright when turned on, which acts as a reminder, but still something to keep in mind for battery longevity.
- No Volume Control
The unit currently has no ability to change the volume for the start-up noise or audio responses to buttons being pressed. Also, the unit has no ability to raise or lower the volume of the alarm timer.
- Bottom Board Security
The smaller cutting board is secured underneath the main board by magnets, which should be noted when transporting the board.
