Tactical Lighter

43 Votes

Rate this product

The Tactical Lighter is a compact but tough hand-held lighter that's wind and water-resistant, so you can use it in a variety of weather conditions. It can also be activated on its own without fluid or a flame. This black, rectangular lighter is durable enough to withstand the weight of a vehicle, but it's small enough that you'll be able to carry it in your pocket. A slightly taller deluxe version with the same lighting capabilities is available, too.

Total Cost Breakdown

The cost of Tactical Lighter is $19.99 and the shipping is FREE!

How It Works

When you press the square black button on your Tactical Lighter, the arc plasma technology built into the design of the lighter will allow it to activate itself without a flame or fluid. Once it has lit up, you'll be able to transfer its heat wherever you want without it being extinguished by wind or even water, such as that coming from rain.

Features

  • Compact and Lightweight

The standard version of this lighter isn't much bigger than a standard-sized mp3 player, so you'll be able to carry yours with you in a backpack or even a pocket or small handbag. Although the larger version of the lighter is taller, it's actually narrower than the standard, so it won't take up much more room.

  • Black

Each Tactical Lighter is black, giving it a bold, tough look. Of course, if you think it looks boring that way, you'll be able to decorate the front with stickers, rhinestones or other small decorations.

  • Rechargeable

You'll never need batteries or electricity to operate one of these lighters, as each can be recharged via a USB cable. Therefore, you'll be able to plug it into your laptop, tablet or any other device that has a USB port. However, you won't need to do this too frequently, as from one charge, you'll get more than 100 uses.

  • Durable

Since this lighter can withstand being driven over by the wheel of a vehicle, it appears to be able to take a lot of abuse. That means it likely won't break or get damaged in any way if you accidentally drop it often, even onto hard surfaces from high heights. It's also likely to survive being stepped on by heavy shoes or boots. It may end up lasting you for years!

Positive Points

  • Quick Activation

When you use other lighters, you probably have to make sure you have enough lighter fluid on hand, but this isn't so with the Tactical Lighter. With no extra supplies, you'll be able to have it lit up after one or two seconds with the press of a button. Then, you'll be able to move onto other activities without spending the time you normally would transferring fluid into your lighter.

  • Safer Than Other Lighters

Along with being faster to use, this lighter is actually safer than a lot of others, as it doesn't emit a flame upon extinguishing. It'll be able to light up anything that a regular flame can, but without the presence of a large flame that could get out of control and burn a user's fingers or surrounding objects. If an older child absolutely needs to use a lighter for some reason, this is most likely the best option for them to go with.

  • Good for Camping

The Tactical Lighter is ideal on a camping trip when you need to light a fire quickly to cook food. You won't need to worry about the weather conditions, since if your fire burns out during rain or high winds, your lighter will work as normal under those conditions. It'll even continue to work properly after being fully submerged in hot or cold water, if this ever occurs.

Negative Points

  • Small Arc

Plasma Lighters such as the Tactical Lighter usually have a small surface area for lighting. If the user is trying to light a larger object, such a cigar or a bigger piece of kindling, the user may have difficulty in doing so. If you are lighting a cigarette you may need to roll the tip to ensure a clean light.

  • Humming Noise

The Tactical Lighter will create a small buzzing noise when operating. For most, this probably will not be an issue. Some users have stated that they find the noise irritating enough that they don't enjoy using the lighter and prefer to use a more traditional product.

Alternatives

  • Everlight

Everlight features a form factor that is more akin to candle-style lighters. One of the main drawbacks of the Everlight is that it uses AA batteries instead of a rechargeable system. Everlight appears like it might be discontinued as the website is offline. Reports indicate that this product has been found in stores as recently as September of 2017.

  • Atomic Lighter

Atomic Lighter opts for a more traditional design and looks similar to a Zippo brand lighter. It features a double arc as opposed to the more common single arc design.

  • Raiden Lighters Electric Arc

Raiden Lighters also offers a product that is similar to other arc lighters on the market. This lighter differs in one major way. The Raiden Electric Arc features a flexible metal hose allowing the user to use the lighter on objects that might be awkward to light with a more straightforward design.

Tips & Tricks

  1. Extending Battery Life

Lithium Ion batteries are not prone to "memory" problems like traditional lighters. What this means is that unlike Nickel-metal hydride rechargeables of the past, Lithium-ion batteries do not need to be fully drained before recharging. Temperature is the biggest factor in battery life for Lithium-ion batteries. To ensure that your battery lasts for as many charges as possible, it's important that you remove the lighter from the charger when the battery has reached full capacity. If the user consistently leaves the Tactical Lighter on the charger for longer than necessary, the discharge will be less than optimal.

  2. Battery Safety

Lithium-Ion batteries can be very dangerous if they overheat. To prevent this from happening, make sure your lighter is kept in a cool dry environment. It is not recommended that you keep any products containing Lithium Batteries in your pocket, car, or any other area that is prone to high temperatures.

  3. Cleaning

Some users stated that when they tried to light tobacco products such a cigarette or cigar, the device was prone to leaving residue in the arc. This could cause the lighter to malfunction. To prevent this from happening, it's recommended you regularly clean the surface area out with a small object like a toothbrush to keep it clean.

How it's Different from Competitors

There are numerous plasma lighters available on the market. The functionality of the Tactical Lighter is essentially identical but like all products in the Bell and Howel Tactical line, the Tactical Lighter boasts incredible durability. This was demonstrated in the commercial by running over the lighter with a tank.

Fire Hazard

Bought it 7 April 2018, number on lighter yes/01/18 From Walmart. Took it out of the package, took the cap off, slid the safety up and pushed the button to see if there was a charge. It started getting warm at the area around the button And at one point most of the lighter was hot after several hours it was no longer hot tried to charge it and the red light lite and flashed after 2 hours it was still flashing and no green lights were lite. If it had heated up in a pocket there could have been a fire. It never worked at all.

Review of Tactical Lighter

It never did charge. The red light stayed on for about a minute then went off. Very disappointing and a total waste of money. Typical "As Seen on TV" garbage. Buyer beware.

Bad Alternative to Regular Lighters

Comments:

1 ) These lighters give a max of around 100 lights per charge, while a regular lighter gives about 3000. So, if you want to go off into the woods and have as many lights,, you will need to buy 30 of these!

2 ) Most regular lighters have a wheel which adjusts the flame strength. These have no such adjustments for power level, etc.

3 ) They advertise that they work even in damp and wet conditions, but that doesn't mean you can light whatever needs lighting in those conditions. For example, if you try to start a campfire with soggy leaves and wood, in windy conditions, you won't get any further with this lighter than a regular one. On the contrary, with a regular lighter on max flame, you might be able to dry out a piece of paper enough for it to light, but not with this.

That may not be enough charge time. Some of these take up to 24 hours to charge. Also, rechargeable batteries get weaker each time you recharge them, so eventually you may only get a light or two. And when you say it works "for a minute or two", is that on continuously? They only mean for it to work for a second or so at a time, up to 100 times per charge, so that would be only 100 seconds continuously, or just what you are experiencing.
