Switch Matic is a digital light switch timer that you'll be able to install over any standard single, standard double, toggle or Decora light switch in seconds. It'll turn any light switch on or off based on a schedule that you've set, while still allowing you to control your lights manually when you choose. Besides your indoor lights, it can also control outdoor lights, ceiling fans and virtually anything else in and around your home that operates via a light switch on the wall.
The cost of Switch Matic is $19.99 plus $6.99 shipping. The special TV offer allows you to receive a second Switch Matic by paying an extra fee of $0.00 for a total price of $26.98. This price was obtained from the As Seen on TV commercial page found at buyswitchmatic.com; however, the company has since ceased selling Switch Matic and has taken down the website. Switch Matic may still be found for sale on Amazon or Ebay.
Prior to using your Switch Matic for the first time, you'll need to add two AA batteries to the device, in the appropriate holes. Batteries don't come with each one, so you'll need to obtain them on your own.
Once your batteries are on your device, simply place it on top of the light switch you want to use it with, directly on top of the switch that you'd normally push or pull. If it doesn't end up directly on top of the switch, it may not work properly.
The next thing you'll need to do is set the device's timer, in order to tell it when you want it to turn the switch it's attached to on or off. You can set a daily or a weekly schedule for this, and do so, you'll only need to press a few buttons on the front of the device. Even after you've set a schedule, you'll still be able to control your light switch manually by pressing the buttons to the right of the digital display.
Each Switch Matic is white, the color of most light switches, so it'll likely match yours. If you happen to have a light switch that's a different color, at least the device's white shade won't clash with it.
The Switch Matic is a compact device, not much bigger than a smartphone, so it won't look like a big box that's hanging on your wall. You also won't have difficulty carrying it from room to room if you want to transfer it between switches, and it'll likely fit in the glove compartment of your vehicle, too.
Aside from showing the time, the digital display on this device will show the temperature around the light switch it's being used on. That way, you'll be able to use it to keep track of the temperature in a particular area inside or outside your home, along with using it as a light switch control.
This tool also has a low battery indicator, which will help you determine when you need to get a new set of batteries for it. With the indicator's help, you'll probably never find yourself with a malfunctioning timer due to battery burnout.
Using a Switch Matic with one or more of the light switches in your home promotes safety in two different ways. With one of these, you'll never have to walk up to a dark house and fumble with a light switch, while trying to carry your things and avoid stumbling at the same time. You'll also be able to create the appearance of being home even when you're not, by scheduling one or more lights to turn on, so intruders will be less likely to approach your dwelling.
If you have kids, one of these devices will be helpful at bedtime, as it can be set to automatically turn off a light in a child's room at a particular hour. With the light off, they'll likely fall asleep more quickly and naturally than if it were left on. The same goes for adults, and if you're someone who often falls asleep reading, you'll be able to save some electricity by setting an automatic shut-off time for your light.
Installing the Switch Matic doesn't involve working with or even touching any electrical wiring, so you won't have to run the risk of shocking yourself or hire a professional to help you install it. Since it runs on battery, using it won't even add to your electricity bill (although having certain lights on at certain times possibly could).
Each Switch Matic will only control one light switch at a time, so if you want to control all your light switches, in the same way, you'll need to get multiple devices—one for each switch. Otherwise, you'll have to move one device from the switch to switch every time you want to use it with a different light. While one installation won't take a lot of time, completing multiple installations on a regular basis may become tedious.
Some people like to control their devices at home remotely, by using an app for their smartphone, but it doesn't appear that this option is available for the Switch Matic. It seems that unless you're at home in front of your device, you won't be able to change the settings on your timer.
If you tend to have a high electricity bill due to forgetting to turn lights off that you don't need, the Switch Matic will turn them off for you. Without even thinking about it, you'll automatically begin to use less electricity and end up with a lower bill.
