Sensei Slicer is a kitchen knife with a design inspired by Japanese chef's knives. Instead of being sharpened on both sides like most knives, each of these cutting utensils has been sharpened on one side only, which creates a very sharp blade. You can use the Sensei Slicer to effectively slice, dice, and cut a variety of food items, including fruits ( even pineapple! ), vegetables, meat, fish, and bread products. If your knife ever goes dull, you'll have the option of sending away for a replacement.

Total Cost Breakdown

The cost of Sensei Slicer is $10.00 plus $6.95 shipping. The special TV offer allows you to receive a second Sensei Slicer by paying the extra shipping fee of $6.95 for a total price of $23.9. This price was obtained from the As Seen on TV commercial page found at; however, the company has since ceased selling Sensei Slicer and has taken down the website. Sensei Slicer may still be found for sale on Amazon or Ebay.

How It Works

You might think a double-beveled knife ( one that's been sharpened on both sides ) would cut more effectively than others, but actually, this type of design can lead to dullness and weak, ineffective cutting. That's why each Sensei Slicer has been made with a single-beveled design, which means that each has been sharpened on only one side. This change in design from the norm results in a blade that is up to 40 percent sharper and therefore better at its job than the standard, double-beveled variety.

  • Classic Look

The Sensei Slicer features a silver-gray blade and a wooden handle, giving it a classic look that will give off an air of attractiveness and professionalism in any kitchen.

  • Non-stick Surface

Each knife's blade contains seven small air holes that will help prevent the surface of the blade from becoming at all sticky. Therefore, there's little chance that any of your food will stick to this knife, a problem that you may experience with other knives.

  • Not Extremely Heavy

This knife isn't extremely heavy, so most people will be able to lift and slice food items with it without difficulty. With it, you won't need to feel as if you're holding a dumbbell in your hand as you attempt to make cuts.

  • Grip Dots

Each knife's handle has grip dots that will assist you with gripping the knife properly. By gripping it in the correct manner, you'll decrease the likelihood that you'll tire quickly, so you'll probably be able to finish your meal preparation more quickly than you would otherwise.

  • Mirror Finish

The Sensei Slicer's blade has a mirror finish that will help prevent rusting, so your knife will look as good as new for longer than the majority of knives do.

Positive Points

  • Used by Japanese Chefs

Knives similar in design to the Sensei Slicer have been used by a variety of Japanese chefs, including sushi chefs, for hundreds of years. This points to the effectiveness of this type of knife, as professionals likely wouldn't use an ineffective utensil for that length of time.

  • Works on Variety of Food

This knife is not only well-suited for cutting sushi—you can use it to cut almost anything that you want to eat for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, regardless of whether you desire thick or thin slices. It'll cut through thin food items, like tomatoes or homemade bread without squishing them, but it is also strong enough to smoothly slice through the hardness of a pineapple or cabbage.

  • Can Obtain Replacement

If your knife becomes dull, all you'll need to do is send away for a replacement and you'll receive one, with no questions asked.

Negative Points

  • Blade Cover Not Included

Although you can obtain a blade cover on your own, it would be helpful if a blade cover were included with the Sensei Slicer, especially given the sharpness of the blade.

  • Not for Children

Due to its sharpness, this knife is not safe for children to use, and even teenagers should be supervised when beginning to use it.

  • Keep Fingers Clear

You may see professional chefs putting their fingers near the blade of a knife such as this. However, unless you're a professional yourself or are wearing heavy-duty protective gloves, it's best to keep your fingers at least several inches away in order to avoid injury.
