Powder Shine is a manicure kit that consists of a clear base coat polish, a clear topcoat polish, a container of colored powder, an LED light and a USB cable for recharging the light. This kit has been engineered to give you a manicure that will last for up to two weeks without chipping, flaking or peeling off. It's asserted that unlike some manicures that are done with gel-based nail polish, a manicure completed with the supplies in this kit won't damage your natural nails underneath.

How to Use (Step by Step)

  1. Complete Base Coat

Once you've decided to paint your nails with one of these kits, you'll need to start with the base coat. To do so, grab the bottle of clear polish that's labeled as such and paint each nail as you normally would. Be sure to wait a few minutes for the polish to dry after you complete this step.

  2. Add Powder

Next, pick up your container of powder and use the included applicator brush to apply some color to each nail. The dusting of powder should be fairly light, but still thick enough that it covers each nail in its entirety. If you accidentally smudge some powder on your skin, you can simply wipe it off with a damp cloth in seconds. In the event that you've applied too much powder to any of your nails, you'll also be able to shake the excess powder off onto a cloth.

  3. Complete Topcoat

Once you've added a coating of colored powder to each nail, and have completed any resulting clean-up that you've found to be necessary, use your second bottle of nail polish to apply a topcoat. As with the base coat, you must let it dry for a few minutes before moving on to the next part of the manicure process.

  4. Cure Under Led Light

The final thing you'll have to do is fold out your LED light so that it looks like a little table, and then turn it on. To cure your nail polish so that your manicure stays put more effectively than it otherwise would, slide your fingers under the "table" and leave them under the light for a couple of minutes. Due to the small size of the LED light, you'll need to do this for the fingers on one hand and then the next.

  5. Clean up

Even if you've done some clean-up along the way, there'll be a bit to do at the end, too. Make sure all three containers are closed and the LED light is off, and store everything away in a safe place, along with the powder application brush.

  • Six Color Choices

When it comes to the color of the powder you'll get in your Powder Shine kit, you'll have six choices. These include pink, rose gold, light blue, purple, nude and red. You may want to pick the color that looks best on you or the one that'll look best with most of your clothing, but there's also nothing wrong with getting a set in each color. The two bottles of clear nail polish and the LED light will be the same across sets, so these can be used with any container of powder.

  • Compact and Portable

All of the pieces in each of these manicure sets are fairly small. That means you'll likely be able to fit an entire set into a medium-sized purse or handbag without running out of room for other essential items. As a result, the set is ideal for travel, if you want to continue to have great-looking nails that don't need a whole lot of touch-ups while you're away from home.

  • Results Last up to Two Weeks

Some nail polish will wear off quickly, sometimes in even a couple of days, especially if you wear it while you're outdoors or doing physical activities. A Powder Shine manicure is meant to last for up to two weeks without starting to show wear and tear, though, regardless of the activities you choose to do with the polish on. Therefore, if painting your nails is a chore for you, you likely won't have to do it as often once you've got one of these kits.

  • Long-Lasting Light

As mentioned, the light included within each manicure kit is of the LED variety. Lights of this type tend to last longer than small lights of other types, with some even giving users up to 100, 000 hours of power before they need to be replaced.

  • Cruelty-Free

Each Powder Shine kit is stated to be cruelty-free, which indicates that none of the solutions within each one, such as the polish or powder, have been tested on animals.

Positive Points

  • Mineral Infusions

Aside from being made up of non-toxic ingredients that won't cause anyone serious harm if they're unintentionally ingested, each of these kits also contains mineral infusions. These are found specifically in the colored powder. Not only will they refrain from causing damage to your nails, but they'll actually contribute to nail health by promoting strength and thickness. If you often have problems with your nails breaking, this may not happen as often once you start using Powder Shine for your manicures.

  • Can be Removed by User

The polish and powder within each manicure set are durable, but that doesn't mean you'll have to wait for your color to wear off if you want to remove it. You'll be able to remove it with acetone or express-style nail polish remover, just as you would some ordinary nail polish.

  • Suitable for Toenails

These manicure kits were designed with fingernails in mind, but there's no reason that you won't be able to use one on your toenails for a pedicure. Just keep in mind that painting your toenails can be a bit messier sometimes, so it's a good idea to place them on top of something that can get dirty as you do the job. Otherwise, you may end up with polish or powder all over a surface you'd rather protect.

Negative Points

  • USB Port Required

If you want to continue to use the LED light that's included in each kit, you'll need regular access to a USB port through which you can recharge it. Most people will likely use their computer to recharge it, but if yours is broken or unavailable for some reason, you could lose access to the LED light. Your nail polish and powder would still work, but skipping the curing step might cause it to stay put less securely.

Critical Advice

Powder Shine manicure kits are safe for use on clean, natural nails. If you've got another type of nail polish on your nails already, it's best to clean it off and start from scratch with Powder Shine, instead of trying to apply it on top. It almost goes without saying that fake nails should also be removed before you use one of these kits.
