Potato Pod is a product that allows you to cook 2 baked potatoes in the microwave with ease. It has a caddy with 2 holders to place the potatoes in, and a lid which seals with a valve. This keeps the moisture locked inside, making for potatoes that don't come out dry and unappealing. In minutes you have them nicely baked and apparently much tastier potatoes than if you stuck them in the microwave on their own.
The cost of Potato Pod is $14.99 and the shipping is FREE!
The product contains a caddy that holds 2 potatoes for baking in the microwave. They are potato-shaped so they stay nicely in place while they're cooking. The caddy also makes it easier to remove the potatoes without having to touch the hot food and perhaps burn yourself.
Once you have placed the potatoes in the caddy, you cover them with a large plastic lid. This helps to keep the moisture locked inside the product.
There's a valve on top of the lid which seals the device and locks the moisture inside. This prevents the potatoes from coming out dry and not very tasty. With this valve, the food comes out moist and apparently more delicious than if you had stuck them in the microwave on their own.
Locking the product with the valve creates a steam pocket inside the product, making for additional moisture with which to cook the potatoes. The steam will also cook the food faster than if it were in the microwave alone.
The handle on the product allows you to take it out of the microwave easily without getting burned by hot potatoes. It makes cooking a little easier.
This product does not have a high price point. It's reasonable and would be affordable for most people. In addition, the manufacturer is offering free shipping for this item. This saves you a little bit of extra money.
This device allows you to make baked potatoes really quickly, which cuts down on your time in the kitchen. It's really only slightly faster than in the microwave alone, but the manufacturer states that you can make better potatoes fast.
This product isn't very big, so it's not going to take up a lot of extra room in your kitchen. You only need a small corner of a cupboard to keep this product.
This product is really easy and fast to wash. The manufacturer doesn't state whether you can put it in the dishwasher, but it only takes a few seconds to clean by hand.
This is a small, light item that is very portable. You can take it over to a friend's barbeque, or up to the cottage for vacation time. It takes little room to pack it and it's not going to weigh you down.
You start by making baked potatoes in this item, but then you can go on to use them for mashed potatoes, potato skins, or other dishes that require mashed potatoes like Sheppard's pie. So it can be considered a general help tool in the kitchen in some ways - if you like potatoes.
Although it's true that you can make other potato dishes from the baked potatoes, in actual fact, this product only makes one item - potatoes. This is not a versatile kitchen tool, it's a potato-making tool. It's limited to that.
This device makes 2 potatoes - that's it. If you have a family, you have to use it perhaps several times by which point the other potatoes are sitting there getting cold. However, if you had stuck them all in the microwave without this item, you'd already be done and eating at the table.
The manufacturer makes a big deal about the fact that this item makes better potatoes than in the microwave alone, but the truth is microwaved potatoes don't come out particularly dry. They come out as microwaved potatoes, which aren't very good no matter how you look at it.
There's a double offer where you can get 2 items for the 'price of one'. You simply have to pay the shipping on the second item. However, this really isn't very useful. Unless you have 2 microwaves, why would you need a second Potato Pod? Two of them don't fit in a microwave. It's just an extra thing to store in your kitchen, which you really don't need.
Potatoes made in the microwave just aren't good. They aren't tasty at all. The manufacturer claims that more moisture will make a better potato, but that's not true at all. What makes a better-baked potato is when it's crispy, like when you make it in the oven. Yes, true, it does take much longer to make that way - that's a fact. However, if you want good food, sometimes it does take time to make it properly. That's just the way it is.
The manufacturer makes a big deal about the fact that with Potato Pod, you can have potatoes every day. Now seriously, who eats potatoes every day? That's just simply not a good selling point.
There are many similar items that are made for making chips in the microwave. You cut the potato in thin slices and place in along a very similar looking pod that has a place for the slices. In terms of baked potatoes, there are similar items and some hold more potatoes. This makes them much more useful. There are also several bags that you place the potatoes inside and cook them in the microwave. Potato Pod is better than these due to the valve and locked in steam. For the most part, the prices are quite similar to Potato Pod.
In the opinion of this reviewer, the company needs to market Potato Pod better. The fact is, it could be a more versatile device but they chose to focus on baked potatoes alone. You could use this to make vegetables very nicely, for example, and they would come out a lot tastier than a baked potato. If you take out the pods you can put larger foods in there too. They should market it as a more general microwave cooker that makes food taste better than if it were in the microwave alone.

I am now single and was microwaving as my wife did by wrapping a wet paper towel around them before microwaving. This helped but part of the potato would be tough and not edible. I ordered one Potato Pod but was never charged and did not receive the pod.
