Orbitrek X17 is an at-home exercise machine that's been designed to mimic what it feels like to run outdoors in different directions, across varying types of terrain. This machine resembles an exercise bike, but users are to stand in a more upright position instead of sitting as they would on a traditional bike. It's stated that during any of the 17 workouts this machine has to offer, users will burn up to 34 percent more calories in the same time period than they would on an exercise bike.

How to Use (Step by Step)

  1. Place on Flat Surface

Once your machine is set up, ensure that its base, which will consist of two sturdy horizontal bars, is resting on a completely flat surface. You can use this machine indoors or out, as long as the floor or ground beneath you is flat for safety purposes. It appears that this is a battery-operated machine, so you won't have to plug it into electricity with an extension cord.

  2. Adjust Resistance Level

Next, use the large dial on the right-hand side, near the handles, to choose from eight different resistance levels. If you're not sure which level to choose, or you haven't used a machine like this one in a long time (or ever), start with the first resistance level. You can always turn up the resistance later if you find that your workout is too easy.

  3. Mount Machine

After your resistance level has been set for the time being, you can mount the machine. Start by grabbing onto its handles (holding one in each hand), and then slide your feet onto the pedals, one by one. Once your feet are on the pedals, make sure the straps are tight enough to hold your shoes securely in place as you work out. If they feel loose, you may need to adjust them.

  4. Choose Workout

When you feel like you're resting securely on your machine, use the electronic display in between the handles to choose a workout. No matter which one you choose, you'll be guided into movements that resemble both running and climbing. After making your choice, start pedaling immediately while hanging onto the machine's handles, in order to commence your workout.

  5. Dismount Machine

Continue doing your workout until it's finished, unless you get so tired that you feel you can't go on. Depending on your fitness level, you may be done in a few minutes, or you may finish one workout and decide to move onto another. Regardless of when you get off your machine, you'll need to undo the straps on the pedals to slide each foot out safely, one at a time.

  • For Adult Men and Women

Almost all adult men and women will be able to comfortably use the Orbitrek X17. If you're able to stand and walk in an upright position, the machine is likely suitable for you. Most teens will also be able to use this machine with adult guidance and supervision. The straps on the pedals will adjust to suit virtually any adult shoe size, so it's unlikely that they'll feel uncomfortably tight or loose against your shoes.

  • Fairly Lightweight

At first, it may sound like this machine's weight of 55 pounds is sort of heavy, but when you take into account the weight of other exercise machines, you'll see that it's fairly light. Some at-home exercise machines actually weigh almost 150 pounds, so at least two people are typically required to lift them, while one physically fit person may be able to lift this one on their own.

  • Has Wheels

Along the same lines, each Orbitrek X17 has small roller wheels. These wheels will not move while the machine is in use, but if you tip the machine in a certain way after you've dismounted, you'll be able to use them to roll the machine along. The wheels will come in handy if you don't want your machine to constantly take up space in the middle of a particular room or area.

  • Electronic Display

While you use this at-home exercise machine, you'll be able to use the electronic display that you'll see between the handles to track your progress throughout a workout. This display will enable you to see things like how long you've spent working out, the distance you've traveled and how many calories you've burned.

  • Whisper Quiet

As you use this machine, it'll make hardly any noise, so if other people (or pets) are around while you exercise, it won't disturb their peace and quiet. Plus, if you're listening to music or watching television at the same time, the noise of the machine won't drown out the audio.

Positive Points

  • Aids With Weight Loss

Of course, doing any sort of exercise is always better for weight loss than doing none, but the Orbitrek X17 will help you burn more calories more quickly in comparison to many other machines. No matter how long you spend on the machine, from a few minutes to three hours, you'll burn up to 34 percent more calories than you would on a standard exercise bike. As a result, if you've got a specific calorie-burning goal for each workout, you'll actually be able to achieve it while undertaking shorter sessions. Furthermore, each machine also comes with a healthy eating guide.

  • No Gym Required

If you hate the gym, but you also don't like performing the same movement over and over on an at-home machine, the Orbitrek X17 may satisfy you. You won't have to travel to the gym, but you'll be able to avoid boredom since the machine's 17 built-in workouts will provide you with such a wide variety of movements to complete. While using it, you'll feel as if you're climbing and running in a variety of directions, instead of just remaining in one place at home.

  • Can Access Personal Training

For the first three months after you've obtained one of these machines, you'll be able to access an online library of workouts with personal trainers to educate and motivate you. You might choose to go it alone after these first three months, but if you want to continue to have electronic access to a professional coach, you can opt to get the deluxe electronics upgrade. Following that, your coaching will be continually delivered through your electronic display.

  • Must Wear Shoes

For safety's sake, you must wear running shoes, cross-trainers or some other type of athletic shoe while using this machine. It's unsafe to use it in bare feet, or while wearing socks, heels or other shoes that haven't been designed with sports in mind.

  • For One Person Only

This machine is also meant to be used by one person only, with no exceptions. Even if you want to use it with a child who doesn't weigh much, be sure that you don't, as this will lead to the potential for injury. It's not a great idea to use hand weights, either, unless they're the type that's meant to be strapped to one's arms, as you should be hanging onto the machine's handles at all times.
