It normally takes thousands of years for most rocks to turn into crystals. However, the ingredients within each packet of the Magic Rocks liquid solution will help speed up this process so that crystals will form in minutes right in front of your eyes.
First, you'll need to fill your Magic Rocks tank or another container you choose ( most jars work well ) with fairly cold water. Fill it almost all the way to the top, but not quite.
Next, open a packet of solution by cutting off one corner with scissors, and pour the solution into your water-filled container.
After your solution has been poured, arrange a few of your colored rocks in your container in virtually any manner you choose. You may want to arrange them in a line, a circle, or a square—just don't stack them on top of each other, or that could interfere with crystal growth.
Once you've arranged your rocks, sit back and watch for a few minutes, and witness your rocks growing up to 10 times in size, while morphing into gorgeous crystals. After they're done growing, you can display them almost anywhere!
In each Magic Rocks kit, you'll get four different colors of rocks, including pink, yellow, green, and blue, so all your crystals won't look the same.
Each kit also includes backgrounds that you can use to decorate your tank, such as one with sea creatures and another with a space scene. If you'd prefer to use your own photograph or drawing as a background, though, you can do that, too.
With one Magic Rocks kit, you'll receive an extra tank, an extra packet of solution, and extra colored rocks, which will give you enough rocks to create three crystal gardens in total. You'll also get a highly portable mini kit that does not include a tank.
While many toys out there have been designed with either boys or girls in mind, these kits will be fun for boys and girls of all ages to use. With four different colors of rocks, all users and spectators are bound to see a crystal that they'd like to admire.
If kids hear the scientific explanation behind why rocks morph into crystals shortly before or after using one of these kits, this may stimulate their interest in science. Therefore, they may pay attention and do better in science classes in school, and may even consider a future career in the field.
A Magic Rocks kit makes a great gift for almost any child, especially if you're attending their birthday party. If there's a lull in the party activities, the group of you might even decide to start growing crystals with the kit right then and there.
While you'll certainly be able to reuse your tank, there's no way to convert your crystals back to rocks so that you can watch them grow again. To repeat the process again, you'll need to use new rocks.
Each time you fill a container in which you plan to grow Magic Rocks, you'll use up some water, which you may consider wasteful if you're trying to keep your water bill low.
With an open top and no lid, the clear tank that comes with each kit is easily spill-able. If you think you'll display your newly grown crystals in a place in which the tank may get knocked over, you might want to use a plastic jar with a lid instead. However, ensure that the jar isn't short and stubby, so the crystals can sprout up as high as possible without rising over the top.
When young children are using one of these kits, be sure that they have adult supervision. Otherwise, they could pop one or more of the rocks into their mouths, decide to have a sip of the liquid solution, or simply make a huge mess of the play area.
After your crystals are done growing, ensure that you display them in an area where your pets won't go, as they, like small children, could end up drinking the solution-filled water or ingesting a rock.
Many people choose to grow plants such as ferns indoors in an aquarium, but these will take much longer to grow than Magic Rocks crystals. Hence, kids may get bored with this activity before the plants even start to sprout.
