Magic Ear is a device that you can wear to enhance your hearing, so you'll always be able to hear conversations clearly and won't have to turn the volume up incredibly high while watching TV. This hand-held device looks like a pocket-sized FM radio and comes with earbuds, so unless you let them know, others won't realize that yours is anything different. Magic Ear also operates by battery, so you'll never have to plug it into an electrical outlet.

My Magic Ear Video Review

How to Use (Step by Step)

  1. Insert Batteries

Unless you have the deluxe version that contains a rechargeable battery, you'll need to insert two AAA batteries into your device before using it. To do so, remove the cover off the back of the device and consult your instruction manual to determine exactly how to place the batteries inside. Following that, put the cover back on in its original position.

  2. Turn On

Once you've got batteries inside your device, flip it over and turn it on by using the round gray button at its center, just above its speaker (this button will also turn the device off). After you've turned it on, the letter D should show up on the digital display just above the button.

  3. Adjust Volume

Next, use the buttons to either side of the power button to minimize or maximize the volume. If you're very hard of hearing or want to hear something far away from you, turn the volume up higher, but don't go past 7 (out of 15 levels) to start. Alternatively, if your hearing is decent or you want to listen to something fairly close to you, it's best to keep the volume on a lower level. If you select a volume level that isn't ideal for your situation, you'll be able to change it in just a couple of seconds.

  4. Plug Earbuds In

The last step will be plugging the included earbuds in, and then you'll be completely ready to use your device. The earbuds are to be plugged into the small hole located in the top right-hand corner of your Magic Ear.

  • Compact

This rectangle-shaped black device is compact enough to fit in the palm of one hand, and each one doesn't weigh more than a couple of pounds. Therefore, you'll be able to carry yours virtually anywhere, and unless you have super-tiny pockets, it'll probably fit inside them. Each one also has a belt clip attached. For a point of comparison, each Magic Ear is about the same size as a standard smartphone.

  • Covers Large Area

This device will not only allow you to hear sounds that are close to you more clearly, but it'll amplify and enhance sounds up to 100 feet away. As a result, if you want to hear a certain sound out in nature, it won't be necessary to approach whatever's making that sound super-closely. You'll also be able to hear the main speakers clearly if you sit in the back row at a movie theater or public lecture.

  • Cancels Background Noise

While it amplifies vocal sounds in your environment, your Magic Ear device will cancel out background noise, such as the rustling of papers or the tapping of feet. That means you'll be able to zero in on what people are saying without being distracted by these relatively unimportant noises.

  • Deluxe Version Available

The standard version of Magic Ear runs by battery and takes two AAA batteries, so you'll never have to plug it into an outlet to use it. However, there's also a deluxe version of the device available. This deluxe version contains a rechargeable battery, which you'll be able to charge via an electrical outlet with the included charger. The advantage of choosing this version is that you won't have to keep obtaining sets of replacement batteries for your hearing-enhancement tool.

Positive Points

  • Can Keep Yourself Safe

A lot of accidents happen because people don't hear sounds in their environment quickly enough, such as the growl of a wild animal or the honk of another vehicle's horn. With your Magic Ear, however, you'll be able to perceive and identify various sounds more quickly than you'd otherwise be able to. This device will also enable you to hear sounds that wouldn't normally be audible to human ears. With these two abilities considered, your overall ability to avoid accidents and keep yourself (and perhaps others) safe will be enhanced.

  • Can Avoid Annoying Others

When you wear one of these devices, you can also avoid irritating others by asking them to repeat themselves or misunderstanding what they're saying because you can't hear. This will be especially helpful in business meetings if you've got an agenda that must be moved through quickly with as few interruptions as possible. Plus, when you're at home, you won't have to annoy other people in your household by listening to the television or music at a high volume any longer. If you're the only one wearing a Magic Ear device, the volume will only be increased for you.

Negative Points

  • May Interfere With Radio, TV

In some cases, having your Magic Ear near a radio or television may interfere with the frequency of that device. In order to remedy the situation, you can try moving yourself and your Magic Ear away from the other device, or try moving the other device farther away from you. Along the same lines, other frequencies may interfere with the performance of your hand-held device. In these situations, the only thing you can do is move around a bit to try and get away from the interference.

  • Start With Low Volume

If you turn your device up to its maximum volume setting and put your earbuds on, you may be blasted with an extremely loud sound that could damage your ears. That's why you must start with a maximum volume level of 7 and gradually turn it up to reach a maximum level of 15 (if necessary).

  • Not Water, Heat Resistant

This device isn't water resistant, so you shouldn't be using it in or very close to water. It isn't heat or fire resistant, either, so while it's safe to use it on hot summer days, you must never store it near things that are capable of producing heat or fire. If you were to do so, it could melt or burn.

  • Store Away From Kids

Any Magic Ear must be stored out of the reach of children, and that goes for the batteries, too, as a small child could choose to ingest a battery. You might want to let your child use your device with your supervision, but they should never use one alone, since they may not understand that they need to start it at a low volume.

Not Magic

I ordered one of these thinking it would make my ear grow back. A dog bit my ear off about a year ago. This did not make any magic and I still have half an ear!

I ordered Magic Ears and paid for fast shipping, got a call telling me they were going to ship me diamond earrings, ring, and necklace. Why can't they just ship what I ordered and no more? I canceled the order and they said they would refund my money, and just send back and refuse the package and they would refund the money. My credit card said if they didn't they had ways of getting my money back. Scam, should have known better.

Got Magic Ear in the mail yesterday. I put batteries in, turned it on and nothing. NO SOUND-NOTHING. Don't waste your money. If you can't hear, get hearing aids.

Stay Away

Poor volume control. Goes from loud to extremely loud. Amplifies ALL noise. No filtering. Stay away. This probably will not get published on their website. AND, in order to return it they require you to purchase a return label for $9.99.
