The Lightening Slicer is a new slicing and storage unit in one. Their blades can be changed without touching them, unlike alternative products. Instead of ever coming into contact with the blade, you can just turn a dial on the underside of the slicer and adjust the thickness or thinness of the slices. With a level of protection for the hands, food can be sliced entirely without ever risking a cut on your hands or fingers.
The cost of Lightning Slicer is $19.95 plus $7.95 shipping. The special TV offer allows you to receive a second Lightning Slicer by paying the extra shipping fee of $7.95 for a total price of $35.85. Price is from As Seen on TV Commercial page: lightningslicer.com
Perfect, uniform slices at a lightening speed. You can use it on any foods you want to slice or Julienne.
The blade is shaped like a “V” and it cuts or slices on two sides. Designed like a loading dock, the slicing section located beneath the V shaped blades can be adjusted for height. As a result, the height adjustment, lower or higher, directly dictates the thick or thin adjustments of the slices.
Lowering the settings produces thicker slices. Oranges, for example, can be sliced into individual pieces a bit thicker compared to the thin setting for ultra thin tomatoes or beets for a salad. The second adjustment is the eighteen blade Julienne slicer which lets you slice anything Julienne, including carrots, potatoes, zucchini, and more.
When you are done using it, you can lift up the platform which rises higher than the blades so you can store it safely. Clean up at this point is only a matter of rinsing the blade. Alternatively, you can put it directly into the dishwasher for an even easier cleanup.
Hand grip keeps fingers safe. There are two ways you can slice foods. For smaller foods, the Handy Hopper is a small square bowl that is filled with the small foods, like grapes or garlic, and then affixed to the top of the tracks. Moving it back and forth, paper thin slices are produced with ease.
Alternatively, to protect the hand too is the bigger hand grip piece which is filled with the food you are chopping or slicing and then held as you move the food across the product. Using this means your hand never touches the blade directly or comes anywhere close. There is always plastic in between.
There is only one container, that which they manufacture, which will work with this slicer. So in order to use it, you have to buy their storage containers and no others. If you are already using their storage container for something like chopped carrots, and you need to use the slicer again for something else, you are out of luck.
You would have to take out another storage container and transfer the carrots before you could safely use this slicer. Of course, the more expensive alternative is to replace the Tupperware in your home with only these containers but they do only come in one size.
The single size storage container means that if you only slice one onion, you are left with a lot of unused space. Finding space in the fridge for such large units, especially more than one, can be a pain.
The unique design of this will save you money in the longer term because of the protective hand pieces. Using these protective hand pieces means you get to keep more of the actual food product. When you slice by hand, you end up throwing away the ends or part of the food because it becomes a safety hazard and slicing that thinly increases the risk of cutting yourself. Slicing with this means that each and every part of the food is sliced with time.
There is a bottom piece which affixes to the bottom of the blade. It is designed to catch all of the sliced food in a single storage container such that when you are done, you need only remove the slicer. Replace the slicer with the storage lid and put the food away. This means you not only save on the time wasted trying to find another storage container, but cleanup is virtually nothing.
There are alternatives which are designed to fulfill the same multiple slice options and storage all in one functions. Freshware has a 4 in 1 chopper, slicer, and cutter which can be used to slice, dice, or chop foods in one single motion. With the Lightening product, you still have to move the food back and forth across the top slicer but with this product you do not. Instead, you just place the food you want sliced onto the blade of your choice and press down. Theoretically one press is all it takes to get the food sliced.
There is a bottom storage unit the same as the lightening design which catches the chopped or sliced food and can be used to store up to four cups. These designs do not cut Julienne though, which is the main downfall by comparison. However, they do slice vegetables much faster by comparison.
HomeNative sells an adjustable Mandoline slicer which contains four blades. The blades make it easy to cut, peel, slice, grate, or Julienne slice your foods. Designed to require nothing more than one press, the set has interchangeable blades so that you can adjust the thickness or thinness of the cuts.
Oranges can be sliced right on top and will fall into the food container base. Different motions can cut different styles and the thickness can be set to 1,3, or 5 mm. Soft to the touch, the grip is strong and the base is non-skid so it can be safely used.
To clean it, you can just rinse the unit and blades or put them in the dishwasher. Advertised as a healthy alternative, this design lets you make spaghetti shaped vegetables for healthy alternatives. Said company even gives out cook books and tutorials for safe use.
The original Mandoline V-slicer has the same V shaped blade and is a professional chef slicer that comes with recipes. There is a Julienne chopper, a slicer blade for vegetables or for cheese, and a vegetable cutter. These blades are all stainless steel. Food preparation time is reduced with this unit. It is also built to last, boasting an ABS plastic body and easy grip safety handles.
Slip resistant rubber feet hold the unit in place during use. You can clean it by rinsing the blades. For storage, there is a blade storage rack so that each of the blades can be safely stored on a counter top or in a drawer. Useful for myriad designs, you can slice vegetable strips with these blades, onion rings, shredded cabbage, diced tomatoes, or sliced potatoes.
