Hair Keys are small, key-shaped accessories that will hold your hair in place, in a wide variety of styles, regardless of its color or texture. The keys come in shades that will match blonde, brunette, and black hair, so while you're wearing one, it'll be virtually invisible to the eye. In a set of Hair Keys, you'll receive two large keys, three medium, and six small ones that will effectively hold different quantities and thicknesses of hair.
The cost of Hair Keys is $14.99 plus $4.99 shipping, for a total price of $19.98. This price was obtained from the As Seen on TV commercial page found at hairkeys.com; however, the company has since ceased selling Hair Keys and has taken down the website. Hair Keys may still be found for sale on Amazon or Ebay.
To use one of your Hair Keys, hold onto the chunk of hair that you want to secure with it ( this could be a large or small swath of hair ).
Next, while still holding onto your hair with one hand, spread the legs of your key so there's a bit of space between them.
After you've spread the legs of your Hair Key, you'll need to simply slide the key through your hair and it'll secure your style. For most styles, it's best to have the legs of the key pointing downward as you do so, although you could have them facing upward if you choose.
When obtaining a set of these keys, you'll get to choose between three different shades, each designed to blend well with a certain color of hair. If you're blonde, the light beige shade is the best choice for you, while you should go with brown if you're brunette, and black if you have black hair. Of course, if you like your accessories to show up boldly against your hair, you can order a different color besides the particular one recommended for your hair shade here.
Hair Keys come in three different sizes, including small, medium, and large. The large ones work best in thick hair, or when you need to hold up all your hair at once, while the small ones are ideal for thin hair or just a bit of hair. Medium-sized keys generally work well with all hair types.
With each set of 11 Hair Keys, you'll also receive a padlock that will help you store and organize them, plus a tutorial on a flash drive that'll help you learn to use them properly.
When you use your Hair Keys, you won't be limited to a few basic hairstyles, as they'll effectively hold your hair within a multitude of different styles, including buns, knots, twists, and braids.
Some hair accessories will cause straight hair to bend, especially if you put them in your hair while it's wet, and then when you take them out, your hair will look kinked. Fortunately, Hair Keys won't do this, so you'll be able to transition between styles without the possibility of having to re-straighten your hair in the process.
Hair Keys are made of plastic, so they'll be more likely to break than real metal keys are.
While these accessories will work within hair of any color or texture, they may not work within hair that's very short in length. If there's not enough hair length for a key's teeth to grab onto, the key may slide right out of the hair.
Many people choose to use hair clips and ties to secure updos, but these can begin to feel painful against the head if you have to wear them for hours. Plus, if you don't find a shade of clip or tie that matches your hair exactly, your accessories will be visible to everyone, which may distract people from your overall look.
Bobby pins come in various shades, and likely won't irritate your head, but they're easy to lose and one often needs to use a ton of them to make a single updo stay in place.
