Generac Power Cell is a battery storage system for the home that consists of a battery cabinet, an inverter and up to six lithium-ion battery modules (a standard system comes with three). This system has been engineered to allow users to harvest power directly from the electrical grid or from solar panels that have already been installed around their home. The goal is for users to be able to use the stored power during power outages or at times when electricity rates are especially high.

How It Works

After your inverter, your battery cabinet and the number of battery modules you'd like have been installed by a professional, the lithium-ion modules will begin to gather power from the grid or your solar panels. Once this power has been gathered, the inverter will convert it from DC (direct current) energy into AC (alternating current) energy so you can power your home with it. If need be, you can also have a second battery cabinet, containing up to six additional battery modules, installed. Keep in mind that regardless of the configuration you choose, you'll need to ask your technician how to program the system to only do its work at certain times, if that's your preference.

  • Free Assessment Offered

If you think you might be interested in a Generac Power Cell system, a technician will come and assess your home at no charge. They'll help you determine where your system should be installed (the garage is a common location, but not the only possible one) and how many battery modules you'll need. Once you decide to go ahead with the installation process, it'll normally only take a day for a professional to complete it.

  • App Included

With your battery storage system, you'll gain access to a smartphone app called PWRView that will enable you to track your power usage. You'll be able to view your daily usage habits, which may prompt you to make changes to them if you notice you're using tons of power at certain times. Plus, the app will track and forecast your electricity bill, too, which will help draw your attention to increases and decreases.

  • Environmentally Friendly

The Generac Power Cell system is environmentally friendly, as it doesn't give off harmful emissions, nor does it make use of fossil fuels or other potentially harmful technology during its operation. Moreover, if you've got solar panels, it'll offer you the option of storing energy from them and ditching the power grid altogether, which will contribute to the health of the planet.

  • Designed and Made in the USA

In their entirety, these battery storage systems are designed and put together in the state of Wisconsin. Therefore, you can expect them to contain high-quality parts and pieces that Americans are accustomed to. You can also use your system with the knowledge that certain safety and labor standards have been followed during the engineering process.

Positive Points

  • For Various Structures

This type of battery storage system has been designed with residential homes in mind, but it's also suitable for commercial use. It's specified that some commercial buildings, such as hospitals and financial institutions, are making use of similar systems already. Furthermore, the size of your system can be customized for the size of your dwelling. One battery cabinet and three modules may be fine for a small house or apartment, but for a larger one, you may want six modules or even an extra cabinet with modules inside.

  • Useful During Power Outages

When the power goes out in your home, if you've got a Generac Power Cell system that's been storing energy on a regular basis, your ordinary daily activities won't have to stop. You'll still be able to operate lights, digital devices, and other common appliances and fixtures instead of sitting there bored in the dark. Even if you've only got three battery modules in your cabinet, these can provide you with up to 8.6 kWh (kilowatt-hours) of power.

Negative Points

  • Will Take up Space

No matter where you have your Generac Power Cell system installed on your property, it'll take up at least a few feet of space. This may not be an issue if you have a large property, but if you're in an apartment or a small house, it may take up space you'd rather use for something else. If you don't have an attached or detached garage, it may also take some time for you to find a suitable location inside the home for your system.

  • Professional Help Recommended

If you don't want to invite an authorized Generac installer into your home and wait while they complete the hours-long installation process, this might not be the right system for you. Installing this system is a complex task, so doing it without professional help isn't recommended, even if you consider yourself handy around the house. If you were to make a mistake, it could be difficult for you to find the source of the error and get your system up and running.

Save Money

In most areas, there are peak times at which electricity from the traditional power grid is more expensive than it is at other times. If you set up your Generac Power Cell system to store up energy and then use it at those peak times, though, you won't have to incur those regular electrical expenses.

I would like to know more about the capabilities of power and it practical for this application. I can't install a propane tank on the property for a generator.
