Dust Daddy

Rate this product

The Dust Daddy is a vacuum attachment that will collect dust from almost anywhere in your home or car, including places an ordinary vacuum nozzle won't reach. Due to the included universal adapter, this attachment can be used with any vacuum, regardless of size or shape. With it, you'll be able to clean virtually every square inch of your home without worrying about moving tiny objects first, as the attachment will enable you to clean around them without sucking them up.

Total Cost Breakdown

The cost of Dust Daddy is $19.95 and the shipping is FREE!

Price is from As Seen on TV Commercial page: buydustdaddy.com

TV Commercial

How It Works

This vacuum attachment contains dozens of tiny suction tubes that pick up dust and dirt as they move. These suction tubes are flexible, so they'll reach almost anywhere, including into an air vent or down a drain. Since they're softer than hard plastic, they won't cause damage to fragile objects while sucking up dust around them, and they're small enough that they won't automatically suck up tiny objects.

Features

  • Portable

Any Dust Daddy attachment is small enough that you can transport it in your car or even on a bus. That means if you want to use yours with another vacuum, such as one at your workplace, it won't be extremely difficult for you to get it there. Since each attachment comes with a universal adapter, too, you won't end up bringing yours someplace only to find that it won't fit on the vacuum there.

  • Attractive Design

Each of these attachments comes in a color combination of blue, white, black and silver, which are common vacuum colors, so they'll look nice attached to almost any vacuum.

Positive Points

  • Gently Clean Digital Devices

When you want to clean dust off your digital devices or accessories, such as your laptop or your PC's keyboard, there's often the worry that your cleaning tool won't be gentle and will cause damage. Fortunately, with the Dust Daddy, you won't need to worry about that, as its suction tubes will be gentle enough to glide around small keys and buttons without damaging them.

  • Can Clean Fake Plants

If you've got a lot of artificial plants with small, delicate leaves in your home, you'll be able to clean these with your Dust Daddy attachment, too. As with a computer keyboard, it'll be gentle enough that it won't damage your plants by ripping the leaves, and it'll be able to reach every inch of a plant that might be dusty.

  • No Pre-cleaning Required

When you're going to do some cleaning with a standard vacuum, you're probably familiar with having to remove small objects such as jewelry, nuts and bolts and Lego from an area before you do so. However, when you use this particular attachment, you won't need to partake in any of this pre-cleaning, as you'll be able to grab all the dust around any objects without sucking them up.

  • Useful in Car

Besides getting rid of dust and dirt in your home, this attachment is also an ideal one to use in the car when you notice dust throughout its interior. It'll clean under seats, between seats, around the gearshift and any other interior location in which dust and dirt may have accumulated. If you've got two of these attachments, you may even want to keep one in your vehicle permanently.

Alternatives

  • Other Vacuum Attachments

Other vacuum attachments aren't as effective as the Dust Daddy, since they aren't made of as flexible material and are therefore limited by their shape and sometimes their size. It's not likely that another attachment will be able to reach as far down into a crack or cranny as this one. Plus, a lot of them will only work with one type of vacuum.

  • Professional Cleaning Crew

You could hire a professional cleaning crew to vacuum and dust your home, but they'll be underfoot for up to hours at a time and will expect payment. There's also no guarantee that they'll bring any tools that are better than the Dust Daddy, either.

Negative Points

  • Tubes Could Break / Get Stuck

Since the suction tubes on the end of each Dust Daddy attachment are smaller and more flexible than the parts that normally make up a vacuum attachment, they may be more likely to break. If one or more of the tubes on your attachment were to snap while you were cleaning, the entire attachment might begin to work less effectively. Plus, even if no tubes break, if you use them to clean heat vents or the spaces within powered-down portable heaters, there's a chance that they could get stuck somewhere and be difficult to retrieve.

  • Won't Fold up Smaller

Even when not attached to a vacuum, this universal attachment will measure about a foot long, so you'll need at least that much space to store it. It would be nice if there was the option to fold it up smaller and have it take up less space, so it could be stored in a small drawer or a vehicle's glove compartment.

Warnings

  • Power Down Appliances First

Before you use this vacuum attachment to clean any small or large appliances that would normally be plugged in, be sure to unplug them and turn them off. That way, you'll ensure that the suction tubes of your attachment will never come in contact with an electrical charge, which could be potentially dangerous for both you as the user and the surrounding environment.

  • Don't Submerge in Water

While the Dust Daddy attachment will be able to withstand a few drops of water hitting it by chance, it's not meant to be completely submerged in water. You'll be able to use it to clean small pieces of debris out of a bathtub or sink, but you'll have to make sure there's very little water in that bathtub or sink first. The same goes for any other debris-filled area that may at some point be filled with water. If this vacuum attachment were to get completely wet, the water could damage it and the vacuum it's attached to.

Dusting Tips & Tricks

How to Use (Step by Step)

  1. Plug Into Universal Adapter

To start using your Dust Daddy, you'll need to plug its black end into the blue universal adapter that has come with it. This adapter will help you attach it to any size or style of vacuum you want to use it with.

  2. Attach to Vacuum

Once the attachment is securely connected to the universal adapter, you must attach the entire pair to the nozzle of the vacuum of your choice.

  3. Clean Almost Anything

Next, when your vacuum and the attachment have been securely put together, you'll be able to clean almost anything with the two of them. The Dust Daddy attachment has been designed with indoor dirt and debris in mind, but if it's attached to a vacuum that you can safely use outdoors, it'll also suck up outdoor dirt.

  4. Remove Attachment (optional)

When you're done using this vacuum attachment to do your cleaning, you can remove it and the blue universal adapter until the next use, or leave both attached to your vacuum if you'd like.

Save Time

If you don't have a Dust Daddy attachment, you may spend time switching between different vacuums and various other attachments in order to clean different things around your home. When you start using this particular attachment, however, less switching will be required, as this attachment will fit on any vacuum and will clean such a wide variety of things, you may rarely need others.

How to Buy Only 1

When you go to place your order on buydustdaddy.com it appears that you will have no choice but to buy two Dust Daddy products. At the top of the order form, there is a checkmark within a green circle and beside it reads "YES! I'd like to DOUBLE my offer and I'll cover the separate $8.95 fee!" This does not look like your average select box so most visitors will not realize that if they click on the green check marked circle it will reduce the order to receiving only one Dust Daddy for $19.95 with free shipping.

Read the Fine Print

It is more important to read the fine print on As Seen on TV sales pages than it is on any other online store. The reason for it being so important is that in the past, these sales pages were known to increase the amount customers were charged by fooling them into agreeing to added features or items, then making it complicated to change the order. While this practice is becoming less and less common, our lack of trust in As Seen on TV retailers has been forever tarnished by it and thus we recommend always reading the fine print.

The fine print for this product reads: " Today you’ll get 1 Dust Daddy for just $19.95 plus FREE shipping and handling! Plus, we'll DOUBLE the offer for just a separate $8.95 fee." This seems pretty straight forward. If you want two units, you'll pay $19.95+$8.95=$28.90. However, if you only want one Dust Daddy, you can get it for $19.95.

As with any time you order something from outside the continental United States you'll be required to pay an additional fee. In this case the surcharge is $5.99.

Process Order Warning

There is the standard warning found below the big red "Process Order" button which reads: " By clicking Process Order, your credit card will be charged the amount above. Click only once."

With today's technology, there is no reason why you should be charged multiple times for the same order; however, for some reason the above statement infers that if you click multiple times, you could be charged for each click. Thus follow the instructions and only click one time once you are certain the information you provided and quantity to are requesting to purchase is correct.

Lack of Privacy - Privacy Policy

The following are key points you should be aware of when packing and order.

  • Junk Mail

You "may receive periodic mailings from us with information on new products and services or upcoming events"

  • Phone Solicitors

You "may receive telephone contact from us with information regarding new products and services or upcoming events"

  • Shared Your E-mail Address

From time to time they make their "customer e-mail list available to other reputable organizations whose products or services we think you might find interesting"

To opt out of receiving phone calls and junk mail at your residence you must e-mail their web support requesting such at:

Shipping Time

The Official Sales page is vague on shipping time. The Shipping Policy page states that your order will be mailed within 30 days from the order being processed. The shipment will occur via FED EX Smart Post which is usually quite quick. It is reasonable be believe that the order will be mailed out as soon as practicable; however, this 30 day buffer gives the retailer space incase of any unforeseen delays such as backorders.

Return Policy

There is a 60-Day Money Back Guarantee for buyers of the Dust Daddy. The return policy does not cover the return shipping fee, nor any other shipping charges which are imposed. This means that is you bought two Dust Daddy's and paid an addition $8.95 shipping for the second unit, you would not received the additional $8.95 back if that amount was considered to be a shipping fee. The website merely calls it a "fee".

E-Mail Confirmation

In recent years As Seen on TV retailers were notorious for not providing their customers with e-mail confirmation of the order. This was a tactic used to increase sales as the buyer would not feel confident that the order had been successfully placed and thus would place the same order a second time. When you purchase from buydustdaddy.com, on the last page of the checkout confirmation you will see a yes or no button which must be selected if you would like to receive e-mail confirmation of the order. We selected 'yes' and received our confirmation within minutes.

Dust Daddy e-Mail Confirmation

But Wait, There's EVEN MORE than As Offered On TV

As will most As Seen on TV Official Sales Pages, once you commit to buy the initial product, they will try to convince you to buy more or upgrade your order. After clicking the Process Order button on BuyDustDaddy.com, we were proved with 4 additional opportunities. (we decided not to capitalize on any of the additional offers)

Additional Offer #1: Additional Dust Daddy for $19.95

We found this to be a horrible offer. If someone wanted a second unit, they could have opted in to received an additional device for a $8.95 fee. However, as the saying goes, there is a sucker born every minute. The only way I can see this offer being beneficial is if you wanted an odd numbered multiple of Dust Daddies (ie 3, 5, 7) and thus would not fully capitalize on the buy one get one for $8.95 deal.

Dust Daddy for $19.95

Additional Offer #2: Additional Dust Daddy for $14.95

Hopefully you did not agree to the additional offer #1 because the second offer allowed us to buy an additional unit for 25% less at a price of $14.95. Again, we still did not see this as a good deal for all the same reasons previously stated above.

Dust Daddy for $14.95

Additional Offer #3: Deluxe Dust Daddy Upgrade

The third offer allowed us the opportunity to upgrade each of our Dusty Daddy devices to include 33% more tubes for "maximum cleaning power". We didn't agree to this offer for two reasons. First, the offer didn't say how much each upgrade would cost; however, we felt there must be a catch. Secondly, it didn't make sense how adding more tubes would increase teh cleaning power. If a unit has fewer tubes, wouldn't this distribution of sucking power be greater per tube? Needless to say we declined this upgrade.

Deluxe Dust Daddy

Additional Offer #4: Deluxe Dust Daddy Upgrade for $5.00

The fourth and final additional offer gave us one last opportunity to upgrade each of our Dust Daddy units for $5.00 each. The offer further went on to say that this upgrade was a savings of 50%. I guess ths means the the Offer #3 upgrade would have cost us $10 additional per unit. Regardless of the price, we still could not comprehend why more tubes would make for a better device.

Dust Daddy Upgrade

Web Service Fee

We were charged an additional $1.00 for a web service fee. The reason for this fee could be argued but we feel that its safe to assume that the fee acts as a deterrent to place an order over the internet. When you place an order online you can take your time a read all the fine print. When you place an order over the phone you feel more pressure and are limited on time to make a decision (that is our personal perception).

Dust Daddy Deluxe

The upgraded version of the Dust Daddy is exactly like the original version only they have managed to add an additional 33% more tubes. The website claims that this is to maximize the cleaning potential; however, we disagree. Adding more tubes won't change how much suction power your vacuum has; it will only distribute that suction power between a greater number of tubes.

Purchase Review / Recommendation

The Dust Daddy is a novelty. It will perform similarly to as shown on TV, but how big of a problem does that solve?

Most vacuums come with small attachments, and while they may not work as good for vacuuming in drawers without removing the items; how often do you clean a drawer without removing the items? Wouldn't a wet cloth work better?

If you watched the TV commercial and thought to yourself "WOW; I've always wanted to do that but by current vacuum won't let me" then go ahead buy it! Alternatively, don't expect it to revolutionize the way you clean.

Wise Advice

Do not buy Dust Daddy online before searching Amazon.

Not Worth the Money

The tubes are too stiff to effectively clean small vents and grates. I would be better if the tubes were softer and could actually brush along the vent grids vs just poke through them.

Works Well-Beyond Expectations

Paid $14.95 plus $5 shipping. Unit arrived drop-ship from China, so this is a just-in-time manufactured item. Arrived with the two, generic vacuum adapter pieces as shown. After flipping through the adapters, I was able to find the one that fit my upright LG vacuum perfectly. I was saving several tests for it — I accidentally spilled ground coffee in one kitchen drawer and pepper in my silverware drawer. Both complex jobs that I couldn't complete with my set of attachments. Dust Daddy powered right through the messes. Then I did some general dusting tests and it works amazingly well on 'complex' (read 'cluttered' desktops). When the tubes clog, you just flip it around and put it back in the attachment and it clears it immediately. Sure, it doesn't look like the pictures, but they gave me everything I needed to make it fit, make it work and make it work really well.

Junk & not as Advertised

Not $20 - it was $28. I didn't want 2. Neither fit together let alone onto a vacum. Ad looked like it was a self contained unit - not a vacum attachment. Filed in trash. Lesson learned - don't order off tv commercials.

I use a shark as well and had to remove the wand, them it fit well on the end. Although it was short it fit and worked ok. Had to put the vacuum on the counter to reach the vent grate above the stove.

I have a very small brush with a long thin (very thin) wire handle, that is made to clean non-disposable straws. I purchased it at Bed, Bath, & Beyond but I’m sure they could be found online. I don’t know if one of those would be small enough for what you need but it is what came to mind when I read your review. I hope this helps!

Got one on Amazon for under $5, and after playing around with it, got it to work on my Dyson. Nice gadget - just wish it attached to a small, hand-held battery vacuum.

I called their toll-free number: $855.349.2720 and spoke with customer service ( a real person answered, surprisingly ). Twenty-four hours later, I had the entire amount credited back. This, of course, is after I told them I'd called my bank and claimed it was a bait-and-switch scam, and the bank flagged it and told me that if I didn't get my money back, they'd go to the next level with them. I haven't even sent the product back yet and they refunded my money. So it's worth a try. They never responded to any of my emails.

Bait and Switch

Total scam. They ask you if you want to upgrade to the "deluxe" version, and if you say yes, they don't give you an option to review what the "deluxe" option is -- they just charge you.

So a $20 purchase instantly turned into a $50 purchase, without my consent.

Don't fall for it.

However I have apparently not been billed for my order, this is the only plus concerning that company. They could at least have the Decency to send out a group e-mail to inform customers of the circumstance of non-delivery.

Deceptive Practices?

Beware! I have not received the cleaning tool yet, i'm just commenting about my on-line ordering experience.

I agreed to upgrade my order to the tool that comes with 33% more tubes for $5. However, when I placed my order I was charged for an extra tool for $8.95.

I then called the customer service number listed in the advertisement and it automatically disconnects!

I've sent an e-mail demanding satisfaction or I will dispute the charges with my credit card company.
