The Atomic Beam DeckTastic is a solar powered light that's been specifically designed for patios and decks. This light is fairly small, but will provide you with a great deal of brilliant light and can also be used to illuminate a walkway, a garden, a yard or a set of steps. It'll use the sun's rays to charge its built-in lithium-ion battery all day, then automatically turn on at night and stay on until morning.

How It Works

Each of these solar lights contains a lithium-ion battery and COB (chip-on-board) LED light chips that will last for up to 100, 000 hours without being replaced. During the day, the battery will harness the sun's rays to charge itself via solar cell technology, so the light chips will always be ready to light up at night. Therefore, as long as you get some sun in your yard, your light will come on each night without the use of electricity or batteries, even when you're not at home. However, no matter what, it'll shut off when daylight arrives, so it won't waste its own energy.

Features

  • Attaches to Various Surfaces

One of these lights will attach to plastic, wood, stucco, or metal and you won't be limited to attaching it to a wall. You'll also be able to attach it to other things around your yard, such as a railing, fence or gate if you choose. To secure it wherever you want it, you can either use the industrial-grade adhesive on the back that won't lose its stickiness or use a couple of small screws.

  • Portable

Since the Atomic Beam DeckTastic light is only about the size of a brick of butter, it won't be hard for you to transport it from place to place, if need be. That means you'll be able to move it around your yard when you desire or even bring it with you to use at the cottage or on an overnight RV trip.

  • Weather Resistant

This light is made of durable material that's resistant to harsh weather, so you can leave yours outdoors during snow, rain or heavy winds without worrying about it blowing away or losing its effectiveness.

  • Brown

Each light comes in a shade of brown, and most yards and decks feature that shade in some way, so it's unlikely that one of these lights will look unattractive outside anyone's house. The brown shade also means that this light won't show most dirt easily.

  • Comes in Sets of Three

These solar lights come in sets of three, so if you have more than one place that you want to install one outside your home, you won't have to obtain each separately. If you happen not to need three outside your home, you may want to save one for a solo or family vacation spot or give one to a friend or family member.

Positive Points

  • Promotes Safety

Having a yard, deck or patio that's not lit can be a hazard, especially if you go out at night on a regular basis, since you could slip and fall and hurt yourself. You'll greatly reduce the likelihood of that happening if you add an Atomic Beam DeckTastic light (or more than one) to the outside of your home, though. Although small, the light one of these gives off is powerful, and it'll enable you to see at least several feet in front of you at all times.

  • No Electricity, Batteries

Due to the fact that this light is completely powered by the sun, you won't need to obtain any batteries or replacement batteries for it, nor will using it make your electricity bill increase.

  • No Tools Required

As mentioned, you'll have the option of securing your light to a chosen surface with screws, but this isn't at all necessary. If you use the adhesive backing to secure it instead, you won't need any tools besides your two hands (or maybe even just one). In the event that you want to hang your light up high, you might need to use a ladder, but hanging it up high isn't absolutely necessary, either.

  • Automatically Turns on

This light doesn't have a motion sensor, but it'll automatically turn on when it gets dark, so you won't have to remember to flick it on. This function will come in handy if you have small children who like to play outside in the yard but are slow to come in when dusk starts to settle.

Negative Points

  • Could be Affected by Clouds

While it's a known fact that some solar lights will continue to charge themselves as normal on cloudy days, it's not stated whether this one will be affected by the amount of sun you get. A few cloudy days in a row probably won't result in your light going out completely, but there's a chance that its brightness could diminish.

  • Cannot Turn Off at Night

It appears that there's no option to turn this light off at a certain nighttime hour without disabling it completely. This may not be a problem for most people, but if your bedroom window is directly above the place where you've hung your light, you may find the illumination from it disturbing. The bright light could even interfere with your sleep.

  • Not a Great Security Light

One downside to this light not having a motion sensor is that it won't be able to immediately alert you if intruders approach your home. Lights with motion sensors will automatically flip on at night if someone comes close to a home on foot or in a vehicle, but this light'll already be on, so there'll be no change. There's a chance that the light being on will deter intruders, but it probably won't deter them as much as a light flipping on right when they approach would.

Save Time

If you obtain a set of ordinary floodlights to illuminate your deck, yard, or patio instead of one of these solar lights, you're going to spend a lot more time installing the set with tools. Plus, most sets of floodlights don't contain LED lights, so you'll probably have to climb up and/or over things to replace incandescent light bulbs at least every few months.

Save Money

If you decide to go for an ordinary set of floodlights, you'll also add to your electricity bill each time you turn them on. With the solar-powered Atomic Beam DeckTastic light, you won't add to it at all, no matter how many of these lights you decide to set up around the outside of your home.

Tips & Tricks

  1. Install by Pool

If you've got a pool in your yard, hanging one of these lights near your pool will dramatically enhance your yard's safety, especially if people frequently swim in the pool at nighttime.

  2. Hang in Sunny Area

Given that these lights are powered by the sun, it's best to choose a place that gets a lot of sun during the day when you're deciding where to hang yours. This may lead to it shining more brilliantly when it turns on at night.
