The Copper Chef Grill mats let you grill vegetables without them falling through the slots of a wire or mesh grill. This is important because most reusable pans meant for vegetables or for grills have air vents cut into them, made from aluminum. The advertisement claims to be “Chef grade” for the non-stick coating, but this is not a legitimate grade. There is no such thing as “chef grade”. It is, instead, a term the company uses to describe something that could be used by chefs, but is not necessarily.
What does exist is the official “professional grade” and “commercial grade” but these are not the terms used. One has to question whether “chef grade” is meant to be either of these, or if the company is using a proprietary term to describe the non-stick coating. The non-stick quality associated with the Copper Chef Grill / Bake Mats means that it is coated with a version of polytetrafluoroethylene ( PTFE ). While it does offer great non-stick abilities, it also starts to deteriorate at around five hundred degrees. So if you do cook at the maximum of six hundred degrees allotted for this mat, you will degrade the non-stick qualities. Once compromised, the fumes exerted can be very dangerous when inhaled, so try to avoid maxing out the temperature.
You save money in a variety of ways. The first of which is on food costs. When you are preparing foods at home, there is some degree of loss resulting from food falling, dripping, or burning. Using these mats alleviates this. What’s more, you save money on the cost of reusable or disposable aluminum grill pans that are a poor substitute.

There are specially designed grill pans and plates, which come in a variety of sizes. These are meant primarily for things like grilled vegetables in addition to grilled fish.
Made of aluminum, some of them are deep dish serving trays, things inside of which vegetables can go before tossed onto the grill. Others have slats or vents in the bottom and come in a variety of shapes/depths so that you can still circulate air underneath and get a more even cooking. However, none of these allow for the perfect grill marks and their materials can compromise the cooking process, adding time to how long it takes to prepare.

Okay, I wasn’t exactly sure how this review would go after reading some of the others! Well I followed the instructions that came with the mats, by first washing them with a mild soap (dish soap) and a soft cloth. Once I was ready to begin grilling I put the mats on the grill racks, and immediately placed the meats; pork chops, beef burgers, and chicken breast. The meats cooked evenly with no flare ups or overly charred surfaces, there were grill marks, not as pronounced as a bare grill rack but sufficient enough to recognize that it had been grilled. I also grilled my vegetables and wow, they turned out great! After I finished, the mats had some grease and burn marks, I removed them from the grill wipe them with a paper towel and place them in soapy water and with little effort on my part the mats were clean and looked like they had just been taken out of the box! I would buy this product again.

We used the copper mat for the first time. The food cooked easily, but the mat didn't come clean as promised. We scrubbed the mat and charred food remained. I will not purchase it again.
