Block Box

Block Box is a small box that you can plug into any home phone in order to block up to 6500 callers whom you don't want to talk to. The device comes pre-loaded with 5000 numbers that are known to belong to annoying telemarketers and scammers, and you'll be able to add up to 1500 additional numbers to your block list. There's no setup required for this tool, besides plugging it into a phone, and it'll double as a caller ID device.

Total Cost Breakdown

The cost of Block Box is $39.99 and the shipping is FREE! This price was obtained from the As Seen on TV commercial page found at; however, the company has since ceased selling Block Box and has taken down the website. Block Box may still be found for sale on Amazon or Ebay.

How to Use (Step by Step)

  1. Plug Into Phone

To start using your Block Box, simply plug it into the back of any working home phone, regardless of whether it's cordless or not. If you're not sure exactly where to plug it in, consult your instruction manual.

  2. Block Numbers as Needed

If you need to block someone's number with this box, press the big red button to automatically do so. To flick through your block list, and unblock any numbers if you choose, use the up and down arrows to the right of the red button.

  • Compact

The Block Box is fairly compact—not even as large as most answering machines that hook up to landline phones. Therefore, if won't take up much space, and if you want to move it from phone to phone at any point, you won't have trouble carrying it.

  • Large Display

The caller ID display on this box is very large in comparison to the call display on most home phones and cell phones, and the box's buttons are quite large, too. That means even people who have vision problems will likely be able to read the box's display and understand how to use it properly.

  • Works With All Home Phones

This box works with all modern home phones, not just ones of a certain brand or style, so if you get a new phone, you'll be able to transfer the box over without problems. The only type of home phone that the box may not work with is a retro one with a dial instead of buttons.

  • Blocks International Numbers

This device will block virtually any number you'd like it to, including numbers from outside your local area and international numbers. It'll also block numbers that show up as private on the display.

Positive Points

  • Starts Working Quickly

As soon as you plug your Block Box into a working phone, you'll be able to start using it. There'll be no additional setup process for you to go through on your own or with your phone company.

  • No Extra Fees

Once you obtain one of these boxes, you can use it until it breaks without signing any contracts or shelling out any monthly fees for its services.

  • No Batteries Required

Since this device will operate through your phone, you won't need any additional batteries or electricity in order to keep it going.

  • Enhances Safety

Without one of these boxes, kids or naive individuals who answer your phone may accidentally give a scammer or salesperson personal information, but that won't be a huge risk once you install a Block Box. With it, any scammer or telemarketer won't have many opportunities to talk to anyone in your home, as they'll already be on your block list or you can add them after one call.

  • Promotes Relaxation and Sleep

If your peace and quiet is disturbed during the day, or you're commonly awakened at night by random phone calls, this won't happen as often once you've installed this number-blocking device. You'll be able to relax and enjoy yourself after work with much less interruption, and get the sleep you need in order to be productive during the following day. If you have kids who go to bed early, you won't have to deal with them being frequently woken up by a ringing phone, either.

Negative Points

  • Doesn't Work With Cell Phones

Telemarketers, scammers and other unwanted callers are becoming a nuisance on cell phones, too, but unfortunately, the Block Box won't work with any kind of cell phone. In order to block numbers on a cell phone in the same way, you'll likely need to use a more complicated method, like contacting your service provider or downloading a blocking app with small print.

  • Works on One Phone at Once

Although it can be moved from phone to phone, one of these boxes will only work on one phone at a time. If you have more than one phone in your home, and want annoying callers blocked on all of them, you'll need to get a number of Block Boxes that equals the number of phones.

  • Standard Call Display

Standard call display will let you know what number's calling you, but the display of the number will often be small, instead of large like the display on the Block Box. Plus, standard call display doesn't come with thousands of pre-loaded nuisance numbers that have already been blocked from contacting you.

  • Contact Service Provider

You could contact your phone service provider every time you want to block a number, but if you want to block thousands of numbers, this could be extremely time-consuming.

  • Hang up on Annoying Callers

When dealing with annoying telemarketers and other unwanted callers, another option is to just hang up on them, but you'll still waste your own time going to pick up the phone. They may also be persistent and call back minutes or hours later.

I Can Already See Problems

This would not work for most people. You would have to be near the phone where you have the box connected. What if you are not near the base? What if you are on a completely different floor in your residence? Most people have extension hand sets and are not sitting at a desk all day the way the ad on TV portrays this.
I think this design needs a lot more thought and a better usable design.
