Brella Shade is an umbrella for your vehicle that's been designed to protect its entire interior from getting too hot inside while it's parked. The fabric umbrella is silver on the outside and dark gray on the inside, and it's specified that you'll be able to open it or close it quickly with the press of a button. When you use it to protect the interior of your car, your vehicle may end up staying up to 30 degrees cooler than it otherwise would on a hot day.

How to Use (Step by Step)

  1. Open Umbrella

When you first look at your Brella Shade umbrella, you'll notice that the exterior of its fabric is silver, while the underside of the fabric is dark gray. While making sure that the silver fabric remains on the outside, press the button on the umbrella's handle in order to open it over your dashboard (while you're sitting inside the car). As you do so, the umbrella should spread out and cover your entire front windshield. Its edges should hit the border of the windshield at an angle that'll enable the umbrella to stay in place.

  2. Close up Vehicle

Once your umbrella is resting securely in place over the inside of your windshield, you can close up your car and go on with your day. While you're doing things outside of the vehicle, the umbrella should keep the air temperature within the car—along with the temperature of its seats, dashboard, and steering wheel—fairly cool.

  3. Close and Fold Umbrella

When it's time for you to get back into your vehicle and drive somewhere, you'll need to press the same button you pressed to open your umbrella in order to close it. After it's closed, you can fold it up and store it away in the included black leather-look carrying case. While it's in this case, it may fit in your door's storage pocket or your glove compartment, depending on what you're storing in those spaces already. Otherwise, you can stash the umbrella on your passenger seat, in your backseat, or in your trunk until it's needed again.

How It Works

To start with, the fact that your Brella Shade umbrella is covering your front windshield will help stop an excessive amount of sun from entering the vehicle from outside. However, the umbrella is much more functional than that. When some sun does enter the vehicle, the umbrella's reflective metallic fabric will help repel it, decreasing the chances that it'll remain inside the vehicle and elevate its temperature. This fabric is actually capable of blocking up to 80 percent of the heat that comes from the sun, and as much as 99 percent of the potentially harmful UV rays that the sun produces. As a result, it'll not only protect your car from overly hot temperatures but also protect it from interior fading that can be caused by sun damage.

  • Metallic Look

Each Brella Shade umbrella for vehicles has a metallic look that'll appeal to people of various ages and genders and will complement the interior appearance of most vehicles.

  • Ergonomic Handle

This umbrella's design includes an ergonomic handle, so if you use it as a regular umbrella, which you can do at any time, you'll likely find it comfortable to carry. Brella Shade is only a bit larger than a standard umbrella, so you probably won't have a hard time carrying it around outdoors, but it'll accommodate two people taking shelter underneath.

  • Reinforced Stitching

Reinforced stitching has also been used within the design of this umbrella, which will protect the edges of its fabric from getting ripped or frayed after just a bit of use. Likewise, the whole thing will be unlikely to rip or tear, so one of these umbrellas may last you for years before it needs to be replaced.

  • Odor-Proof Fabric

The fabric that's used to make each Brella Shade device is purported to be odor-proof, which means that if your car tends to get smelly as it gets warmer, this umbrella will help prevent that. When you use this umbrella, you'll no longer have to open the door to an extremely musty-smelling or otherwise stinky car to ride home in at the end of a long day.

  • Carrying Case Included

Every one of these umbrellas comes with a black leather-look carrying case that'll only enhance its durability. It'll also help you hang onto the umbrella securely if you're carrying it in one hand while you're out and about.

Positive Points

  • Can Make Car Look Newer

If your vehicle frequently sits out in the hot sun, the color of its interior parts, including its seats, dashboard, and steering wheel, can fade a lot. This is especially true in regard to the seats, as they're typically coated with fabric. Faded parts can show the age of a car, while a lack of fading can make a vehicle seem newer (and perhaps more valuable) than it really is. Fortunately, using a Brella Shade device will help you achieve the latter since its blocking of the sun's rays will reduce or completely eliminate any interior fading.

  • One Size Fits All

The size and shape of the Brella Shade make this dashboard umbrella compatible with nearly any vehicle, regardless of its make and model. Your dashboard's size and shape will be fairly similar, too, even if you move from car to car, so it's unlikely that you'll need to get a new dashboard umbrella whenever you make the switch.

  • Deluxe Version Available

For those users who want an umbrella for their vehicle that's even more durable than the standard Brella Shade, there's a deluxe version of this umbrella available. Instead of having a metal frame, it has a reinforced fiberglass frame, which will increase its durability. Nonetheless, the deluxe version of the umbrella will be lightweight, perhaps even more so than the standard version.

Negative Points

  • Doesn't Cover All Windows

This umbrella will keep a great deal of unwanted sun out of your vehicle, but it could do an even better job by covering all the windows, instead of just the front windshield. If you want to block the sun from coming through all the windows of your vehicle, though, you'll need to find alternative covers for the side and back windows. Unfortunately, the Brella Shade umbrella has only been made to cover front windows.

Save Money

Without any protective device like the Brella Shade over your car's front windshield, you may need to crank up the AC almost immediately to diminish the heat level when you get in. Plus, you'll probably have to keep it on for a good while in order to cool down your burning-hot steering wheel. Over time, this can use up lots of gas, but if you keep your vehicle's temperature up to 30 degrees cooler to start with by using this protective umbrella, you won't need as much fuel.
