The Better Bulb is an LED lightbulb that you can use even when your power is out. It'll work in virtually any lamp or light fixture, and will provide you with as much illumination as a standard 60-watt light bulb. However, unlike a standard bulb, each one contains a battery that recharges itself when your power is on and enables the bulb to stay on when the power is off. It's capable of running for up to eight continuous hours without electricity.

How to Use (Step by Step)

  1. Add to Lamp or Light Fixture

To start using your Better Bulb, you'll need to screw it into a standard lamp or light fixture in the same way you'd screw in a standard bulb. This bulb always remains cool to the touch, so you'll be able to move it between lamps or fixtures whenever you need to.

  2. Use Like a Normal Bulb

After you've added this bulb to a lamp or fixture, you can use it as you would an ordinary bulb, as long as your power remains on.

  3. Leave On During Power Outage

In the event that your power goes out, you'll see that your Better Bulb immediately turns back on and starts running via its battery instead of electricity. Therefore, you'll be able to enjoy an ideal level of illumination in your chosen room even when there's no power. The same thing will happen if you unplug the lamp or light fixture your bulb is in—it'll immediately come back on due to the built-in battery inside.

  • Long-Lasting

Each of these LED bulbs lasts for up to 20, 000 hours, so yours will likely provide you with years of electricity-free light, whether you use it frequently or not. To make a comparison, standard incandescent light bulbs usually last for a couple of thousand hours.

  • Shatterproof

The Better Bulb has been designed to be shatterproof, so even if you drop it on the floor (any easy thing to do in the dark) multiple times, it won't crack into a million pieces. You probably won't see as much as a hairline crack on it after it's been dropped.

  • Withstands Any Weather

This light bulb will withstand a wide variety of weather conditions, such as snow, rain, high temperatures, and thunderstorms, so you can use it outdoors without worrying about damage. This makes it an ideal lightbulb to use at a campsite, especially if your site doesn't have electricity.

  • Stays Cool to Touch

Your Better Bulb will always remain cool to the touch, even if you've had it on for hours or days at a time. That means you'll be able to move it from one lamp or light fixture to another whenever you want without being concerned about burning your fingers. This option will certainly come in handy if you want to move between rooms during a power outage, but only have one of these bulbs. You can also rest assured that if a child under your care likes to poke at light bulbs, they won't get burned.

  • Flashlight Adapter Included

With each bulb, you'll get a special adapter with a hook, with which you'll be able to turn your bulb into a flashlight to carry around. If you get tired of carrying it and want to keep both hands free, you can hang it virtually anywhere by its hook. This adapter won't be cumbersome to work with, as each is lightweight and about the same size as a wine cork.

Positive Points

  • Versatile

Some lamps of both the LED and incandescent versions will only fit into light fixtures of certain sizes or brands, but the Better Bulb will fit into almost any light fixture. As a result, you'll be able to use it in almost any room in almost any building, including your home, your office or a cottage. If you need to transport your bulb to an alternative location, it won't take up much room in your backpack or purse, either.

  • Won't Come On During Day

The built-in sensor within each LED bulb that senses when there's no electricity coming in is quite smart and can also tell when it's daytime. Since a light bulb isn't needed when the light of day is available, the sensor won't activate your bulb's battery then, and the bulb will stay off. Therefore, its battery won't end up getting drained when no one actually needs light.

  • Comforting For Kids

If you've got children under your care who tend to freak out when the power goes out and they're bathed in darkness, the Better Bulb will help assuage their fears. With it, the kids will be able to see normally in at least one room, and that'll help reduce their anxiety. After a while, they might forget that the power is out if they become absorbed in some fun activity. Even when the power's not out, you may want to hang one of these bulbs from a child's ceiling as a nightlight.

  • Reduces Need for Flashlight

When the power's off, it's often a trial for people of any age to find a suitable flashlight to use. Fortunately, when you've got a Better Bulb, you won't have to spend time hunting for a flashlight (not to mention batteries!) in drawers and cabinets in the dark. Instead, you'll simply be able to attach the included flashlight adapter to your bulb and get on with your evening.

Negative Points

  • Limited Battery Power

It's a good thing that the built-in battery will enable your bulb to run for up to eight hours with no electricity, but after that, if your power stays off, you'll be in a bind. To keep on using the bulb, you'll need to find a source of electricity somewhere in order to recharge the battery inside. If the power's out in your whole town, that just might not be a viable option.

  • Only White Light Available

These light bulbs come only in white, which will suit the needs of most people, but it'd be nice if they were available in other colors like yellow, red and green, too. Then people could use a colored one (or a few) to add a funky touch to a room or enhance their holiday decor.

Save Money

If you decide to use the Better Bulb as a flashlight instead of using standard flashlights, you'll no longer have to keep obtaining replacement batteries for those standard flashlights. Flashlights typically eat up batteries pretty quickly, so you may avoid adding an extra item to your list for the hardware store each month, or even each week.

Critical Advice

For your bulb to immediately turn on when the power's off, it'll need to be turned on while the power is still on. If you notice that your power has gone out and your Better Bulb hasn't turned on, just flick the switch of the lamp or fixture holding it to the 'On' position. You can turn the bulb on and off as many times as you'd like, while the battery is running, without interfering with its performance.
