Pros

  • Alerts You

This is a new anti-sleep alarm meant for drivers or for people who are trying to study. In theory it works with the study of human body balance therefore alerting you with a high-pitched beep as soon as your head begins to lower to 15 or 20°.

  • Battery Powered

It is powered by a single cell battery which means once it stops working you can replace the battery easily.

  • In Your Ear

The alarm is emitted from the unit itself, unit that you were wearing on your ear. As such the alarm will be very loud and directly in your ear so as to stimulate your response immediately.

  • Use During Study

People who have difficulty staying awake during things like lectures, studying or driving can stay safe and focused by wearing something like this.

  • Discrete

Marketed as life-saving technology with the promise to keep you awake behind the wheel, anti-sleep alarms and stay awake alarms are meant to prevent you from falling asleep at the wheel. It is comfortable and discrete so all you have to do is put it over your ear as you are working or driving. You will hardly feel it.

Cons

  • No Information on Hours

This particular design does not tell you how long the battery lasts. Which is problematic for anyone who needs to know that it will not simply die in the middle of a long drive or a long period of studying.

  • Might Disturb Others

The alarm that it uses is very high-pitched and beeps or chirps once. If you are working or studying in a group setting such as a library or study hall and you are trying to use this to stay awake noise might be problematic. It could be very intrusive to all of the other people trying to study around you.

Does It Really Work?

There is no denying that there are dangers with drowsiness especially when you are driving or trying to perform critical tasks. The anti-sleep alarms are meant to be an inexpensive and simple solution to drowsiness especially for drivers. Unfortunately this anti-sleep alarm fall short of scientific collaboration and research necessary. This unit utilizes real-time technology, the idea that it will alert you as soon as your head starts to tilt. Their alarm is triggered as soon as the app recognizes or thinks it has recognized a sleep incident. The real-time earpiece response only when it registers that something is not right. However understand that by that time as the driver you might have already slipped into a micro sleep which has caused you to cross into a different lane.

Theoretically the angle associated with the alarm on this particular application is sort of meant as making up the difference between a real-time application and predictive application. Insofar as it monitors once your head reaches a particular angle which is theoretically the angle right before you have fallen asleep.

Unfortunately programs like this one meant to keep you alert do not really work. They monitor your actions and they only react once a potential incident has occurred.

Microsleep

Without even realizing that you are tired micro sleep can take place with almost little to no warning. In some cases micro sleep follows common signs of drowsiness like constant yawning, your inability to remember the last few minutes of driving, or feeling like your eyelids are heavy. However, in other cases though it happens without any warning. It is for this reason that devices like this might not work as effectively if you are drowsy. That being said, in cases where you are not in harms way such as just trying to study, it might not be as wasteful an item but you should not expect it to work wonders.

Tips & Tricks

  1. Other Things to do

There are things that you can do to stay on alert as a driver other than sleep but they are all temporary. Applications cannot keep you awake. Even if you are tired and you hear the alarm going off, it might not be enough to keep you awake while you are driving. Power naps and coffee are really the only two temporary examples that you can use to help you stay awake while you are driving. Again temporary fixes and not a good substitute for good quality sleep but still effective nonetheless.

How it's Different from Competitors

Today there many anti-sleep applications on the market which measure things such as your hand positioning on the steering wheel, monitor your eyelids for drowsiness, and monitor things like the angle of your head. All of these are using similar technology and release similar high-pitched beeps or alarms to catch your attention. This particular unit is similar to buddy driver alert anti-sleep alarms that you wear over the year the only difference being that it does not connect to any other type of application.

When you have to drive for a significantly long period of time this rechargeable alarm can work for up to 50 hours while regularly alerting you to any possible signs of napping.

  • Stop Sleep

Stop sleep as an anti-sleep alarm that is designed to warn you up to five minutes before your drowsiness really kicks in with the beep and a vibration alert.

It has theoretically been tested by the national Center for scientific research and been found to work without any maintenance or set up. All you do is flip it over two of your fingers while you are driving Internet on. It is designed to monitor the position of your hands as you are driving and your pulse to try and verify when you are starting to turn sleepy.
