To get started with your Alpha Pro grooming tool, get your pet settled in a comfortable place, either indoors or outdoors. They can be standing, sitting up, or lying down, as long as they're comfortable and relaxed. As they sit, stand, or lie down, simply start running the tool's comb through their fur in a gentle manner. Aside from the back, the tool can safely be used on the stomach, under the arms, and behind the ears—basically, anywhere besides the areas around the eyes, nose, or mouth.
If your dog or cat's coat is fairly smooth to start with, you may not hit any knots. However, if you do, you can press the silver button on the back of your tool, which is known as the Alpha Pro button. This will enable you to eliminate each knot quickly, without making your pet uncomfortable. Pressing this button will also activate the tool's built-in light, which will help you see any knot more clearly if you're in a dark or dim area. Throughout your grooming session, you'll be able to use this button as many times as you'd like.
When you've removed all the tangles from your pet's coat, it'll be time to release them from your care so that they can go about their day. You may want to give them one more quick combing before you do so, although this isn't essential. Once they've run off to play, eat, or do whatever else they might choose to do, you'll need to pick up any fur that they've shed during the grooming session off the floor or ground.
Some grooming tools, such as scissors and manually powered combs or brushes, can make a dog or cat uncomfortable as you use these tools on their coat. You won't have to be concerned about that at all when you use the Alpha Pro grooming brush, though. Each one contains three recessed blades inside that'll do all the grooming work without ever coming in direct contact with the pet's skin. Instead, they'll come in contact with just the pet's hair, as they remove tangles and knots and smooth out the coat in general. Even if you're a novice groomer who lacks coordination as you move the blades through their fur, you won't run the risk of accidentally poking or pinching your pet's skin. As a result, the animal should remain fairly calm as you complete this gentle grooming process.
The design of this black-and-silver tool, including its size and shape, has been selected so that it's comfortable for the human hand to hold. That means your hand will be unlikely to get sore or tired quickly as you use the tool, even if you have to groom the coats of multiple pets within the same session. Keep in mind that for optimum results, it's best that whenever possible, you use your dominant hand to operate the device.
As alluded to above, each Alpha Pro tool has a built-in light that can be activated with the press of a button, so you won't need an extra flashlight for grooming purposes. Instead of having to hang onto a small flashlight in one hand and the grooming brush in the other as you try to remove knots, you'll be able to keep one hand free. You may want to use that hand to pet your dog or cat if they seem at all unhappy about being groomed.
The Alpha Pro is battery-operated, so you won't have to plug it into electricity, which means you'll be able to use it almost anywhere that you and your pet might be. When you need to recharge it, you'll be able to use the included USB cord to plug it into any port in order to charge the internal batteries. As long as you have at least one USB port handy, you'll never have to stop using the tool because the batteries are dead and you don't have another set on hand.
This grooming tool has been deemed suitable for cats and dogs of all ages and breeds. If you've got multiple pets in your house, you'll likely be able to use the same tool to groom all of them, although you may want to wash it between uses. Washing it will remove the previous pet's scent from the tool, which could be helpful since some pets are bothered by the scent of another. Just use common sense while operating the device—if one pet's smaller, you should use a much lighter touch than you would on a larger pet with coarse fur.
If a pet sees a grooming tool that they don't like, such as a comb that basically rips the tangles out of their fur, they may immediately get upset and start yowling or howling. They might even run and hide. These things probably won't happen when they see the Alpha Pro, though, as there will be no ripping, cutting, or tugging involved when you use this tool on their coat. They'll likely remember being groomed with this tool as (at least) a tolerable experience, and stay calm the next time you bring it out.
Those people who have a pet that's not a dog or cat, such as a horse, rabbit, or guinea pig, might be disappointed that this tool isn't meant to be used on that animal's coat. The tool is too large to be safely used on the fur of an animal that's any smaller than a cat, and its presence may actually scare them. You could probably use the tool safely on a large farm animal, but they have coats with different textures, and this tool hasn't been designed to effectively groom those.
When you're using this tool just to comb your pet's fur, it won't make noise, but it'll make a fairly loud whirring noise when you activate the Alpha Pro button. This likely won't be loud enough to scare your pet out of a grooming session entirely, but it could momentarily irritate them. Over time, with multiple presses of the button, it could also irritate you and any other people who are hanging around as your pet is being groomed.
