Features

  • Fast Cooking

With this unit you get faster meals compared to preheating your oven. In as little as five minutes most foods can be cooked on both sides.

  • Reputable Company

The Red Copper company behind the 5 Minute Chef is a reputable company which has made lots of cookware which has the same copper infusion, non stick technology.

  • Recipe Book

When you place your order you get a free recipe book to accommodate the unit. This enables you to make lots of things without needing to estimate the time or ingredients.

Pros

  • Easy

It is easy to use. You just pour your food inside and close the lid, then wait a few minutes for it to be done.

  • Copper

This unit is copper infused which means it can withstand anything you do to it.

  • Non Stick

You get to slide your food right off as the non stick surface makes it easy to enjoy.

  • Cook Many Things

With this unit you can cook many things, which if you are only one or two people works out well. You can use it to grill chicken with vegetables on the side, steak filet, or steak wrapped asparagus. Make pizzas, omelets for breakfast, pancakes, or cakes.

Cons

  • Portions

While this certainly cuts down the cook time, the issue is the size. It makes foods ideally suited for one serving size. When making a steak or stuffed chicken, you can only make one filet or breast. If you make a pancake or omelet, it is a proper size for one serving, maybe two. Therefore for larger families, it might be more time consuming to make each person's food one at a time compared to just using a larger pan and making them all at once.

Save Time

There are a handful of ways in which this unit saves time. First, it saves time by cooking on both sides. Cooking foods on both sides alleviates the need to flip food like omelets or pancakes. You can put the food on and then walk away without worrying about it burning or overcooking. Second, it saves time with its nonstick design. Being nonstick means you do not have to spend as much time cleaning. Instead you can just wipe it clean with a paper towel when you are done cooking.

How it's Different from Competitors

Regular frying pans will cook food the same way the red copper will. However, Red Copper 5 minute chef will cook your food evenly in a matter of minutes without any flipping, and regular frying pans cannot do this. Moreover, this unit is infused with pure copper which helps to evenly distribute heat, whereas other pans do not have this. Non stick is a more common feature among cookware today but not every frying pan is non stick, making the Red Copper 5 minute chef a slightly better option. Finally, it boasts non scratch technology that most frying pans do not. So you can use it safely with any type of spatula or fork and not worry about scratching up plastic into the food.

How to Use (Step by Step)

  1. Mix

Mix your ingredients. This can be a mixture of pancake batter or just a steak wrapped bundle of asparagus.

  2. Pour

Pour the mixture into the pan. Conversely, place the meat and vegetables you want prepared into the pan.

  3. Close

Close the lid and set the timer for the food.

  4. Enjoy

When the time is up, you can take the food out with ease, then enjoy the delicious food.

  5. Clean

You can clean up easily. After the food slides out, you just wipe it clean.

How It Works

This unit works similarly to an indoor grill or a waffle iron. Waffle irons might have raised edges and indoor grills might have grill marks, but the idea behind them is the same. The copper infusion for this evenly distributes the heat through the top and the bottom. As a result, your food is cooked evenly on both the top and bottom which reduces the time it takes to cook.

Tips & Tricks

  1. Parties

If you are hosting a social event at your home one of the things you can do is turn your oven on low, to around 180. Doing this means the individual portions you are making stay warm while you are preparing other foods. So, for example, if you want to make six or seven pizzas or stuffed desserts, you can keep them at the perfect temperature until the others are ready and it is party time. This is also something you can use if you have a large family and are waiting for people to arrive at the dinner table.

Warnings

  • Copper

As with all the Red Copper kitchen items, it is important to understand that the 100% pure copper used does not mean that the unit is made entirely out of copper. That only means that there is a bit of copper on the inside of the two panels to help conduct heat better. When you look at the unit you will see a copper color, but this is the not the actual copper they are talking about, it is just a copper colored coating.

Alternatives

  • George Foreman

George Foreman has a. Next generation grill which is similar to this. You can use the grill to prepare foods on both sides with the grill lines, indoors. The difference though is that this one does not cook on the two sides, only on the bottom. Their top panel is just there to seal the unit closed for better cooking. Dishwasher safe, it is also nonstick so you get a fast and simple clean up.

  • Hamilton Beach

Hamilton Beach has an indoor grill similar to this one which offers a chance to cook foods inside with an outdoor BBQ taste. You can use the unit to prepare lots of foods, but not omelets and pancakes like the 5 Minute Chef. Nonstick, the hinges can be taken off so that you can clean each one at a time or just grill on top without shutting the unit closed. There are different colors available if you buy this unit but they do not cut down on cooking time.

Tips & Tricks

  1. Sausage Omelettes

Just place sausage, peppers, egg and cheese into the 5 Minute Chef and in just 4 minutes, you get light, fluffy omelettes without any of the hassle of having to flip them.

  2. Home Made Corn Dogs

Use your favorite corn bread recipe, throw in a few chopped up hot dogs and you get homemade corn dogs in no time.

  3. Fruit Pies

Place your pie crust on the bottom of the 5 Minute Chef. Next, filled the crust with any fruit filling that you like and cover with the upper crust. Close the lid and you will have a fresh fruit pies in minutes.

  4. Cookies and Cakes

This product is a great way to put a new twist on baked goods. You can even try using your favorite cookie or cake mixes in the 5 Minute Chef.

  5. Get Creative

You can decide to make almost whatever you want in the 5 Minute Chef. Get your imagination going and create exciting new meals or just put a twist of traditional meal ideas.

  6. Offers

With the main offer, you will get a 5 Minute Chef, a spatula and a recipe guide.

You may also choose to upgrade to the deluxe version which has a double coating. It also comes with a spatula and a recipe guide.

There is also a third option of purchasing the Chef Bundle. Available with both the original and deluxe 5 Minute Chef, this offer also comes with Red Copper's Flip Switch and Square Pan. The Chef Bundle also includes free shipping.

Save Money

With its versatility, this product can replace several different pots and pans, saving you money on expensive, over priced cookwares in the future.

Critical Advice

Do not overfill the cooking plate. Although designed with deep edges, once certain foods cook, they may expand causing messy spills.

This product will get quite hot and you should always use caution while using the 5 Minute Chef.

Keep out of reach of children.

Complaints

  1. Power

The power cord for the 5 Minute Chef is only 28 inches long. While this is meant to avoid tangles and a tripping hazard, it may also make it difficult for people to find a place in their kitchen for it.

This product also does not have any type of On or Off switch or an automatically timer which would make using this product easier.

  2. Size

Some customers have complained that the 5 Minute Chef is a lot smaller than they expected it to be.

  3. Lid Pops Open

Others have complained that the lid might pop open and spill food, making a mess.

  4. Meats

There have been complaints that the 5 Minute Chefs works great for omelettes and cakes, but does not cook meat properly.

  5. Heat

Some have claimed that this product only boils meat and that it does not even get hot enough to brown hash browns.

  6. Recipe Book

Some have said that the recipe book does not include very many recipes. Most of the recipes included are for eggs.

Advice on Buying 5 Minute Chef

After seeing the add on TV for the 5 Minute Chef, I was suitably impressed and hoping to buy one for a friend for Christmas. Now, after reading various reviews, I am not sure. Some people are happy with theirs, others not. Very confusing. A lot of money to spend if product not so good.

My Cooker Case Melted on Both Sides

Do not purchase this product, i have included pictures for your reference, my unit case melted on both sides, the casing plastic is inferior, one side developed a melt blister, the other side developed a black melt line where the heating element is situated inside the case. Do not purchase. My unit melted the very first time that i used it. See the pictures, they do not lie.

Should Have a Safety Recall

Did they ever consider fully testing in all conditions, if it was one of the company owners family that got hurt or burnt using it they would immediately do a safety recall!

Scam when Purchasing by Automation!

I did everything by automation, when I checked my account and only expecting $99 to be charged I was shocked to find charged $179.00! I just had throat surgery when I called to cancel and they wanted to give me $25 credit. I said what in the hell don't you understand about the word cancel? If I find that I still get charged heads are gong to roll!

Good Omelettes

Out of 3 Omelettes, only one exploded. It had a high pitched whistle like a tea kettle before it blew. Beware if you hear that, and take care when opening the handle. I believe I figured out how to prevent exploding eggs. 1. Don't use more than 2 large eggs or it could be too full. 2. Think small in terms of amounts of milk, cheese or toppings added. ( Use a splash of milk, if any, and a small sprinkling of cheese. ) 3. Seasonings, especially salt, should go on after cooking.

That commercial is so annoying. Her voice goes on and on and the sound is just up and down. It never ends!
Can't they get someone else to do this ad, with a more pleasant voice?

Satisfied

I bought my unit at Wal-Mart and am very satisfied with it. However, there are only 2 of us in our household, so if making food for family, to time consuming. I made my daughter an omelet to take to eat on the way to work, and she really liked it. Also the recipe pamphlet included in Wal-Mart purchase is not Kathy's full cookbook, so was kinda disappointed in that, but very satisfied with the way it cooked.

Too Much

These negative reviewers where the top blew may have put too much into the device. I have used mine many times, when I first got it "more was better", it was not. When I cut down on the amount it stopped popping. Works great now. Do NOT overfill. Hope this helps.

Product ok but Deluxe is a Scam and Service Sucks

I just bought a couple of 5 Minute Chefs, one deluxe and one regular one. The deluxe is a scam. Don't waste your money. Its the same model but just a different box that says deluxe. I called customer service and they claim that the deluxe model has the same model number but since its in deluxe packaging its deluxe. Trust them that its deluxe. Scam. Customer service is full of idiots that know nothing and they just make you mad because of their lack of knowledge and unwillingness to help. You stay on hold for a very long time before reaching someone.

It did cook eggs very nicely with no sticking and a mug brownie baked well also. It barely holds the contents of a coffee mug so its very small. I haven't had a problem with the product itself except that the deluxe model is a scam and its really just a regular packaged in a deluxe box.

Also, the pricing is different, more expensive, when you order than what is advertised.

It comes w / an 8 page "guide". You can extrapolate the times when you are cooking from the examples in the booklet. Cookbook is a relative term I guess : ) If I see one I will post that, there is nothing on any web site I have seen, yet.

Exploded

I followed the instructions word for word to make an omelette. Poured ingredients into one side closed the lid, clasped it shut, cooked 2 minutes, flipped and during the second 2 minutes the whole thing blew up. Eggs, bacon, cheese all over the counter and floor. My dogs enjoyed it. I really wanted to like this. Please let me know if I did something wrong. I followed the recipe in the enclosed cookbook for an omelette.

As I said in another review, I found consistently that adding a
Salt n pepper makes the eggs explode, just stirring the eggs in by themselves I've never had an explosion. Also don't use larger than large eggs? That might matter.

#1-For an omelet, you are not supposed to flip it. #2-you are not supposed to latch it closed.
I made a perfect omelet the first time I used it, and it came out great.
