This is a health and ancestry DNA test brought to you by 23andMe. The test helps you understand what your DNA says about your health, genetic traits and family ancestry. You will have to provide a saliva sample and send it back to the company. Within 6-8 weeks, you will receive your an email notifying you that your results are ready. You will then be able to log in and start discover what your DNA says about who you are.

How It Works

There are a few main steps to taking your personal DNA test and discovering your ancestry all from your very own home.

- The kit typically takes about 3-5 days to arrive in the mail. Once you received the kit, you will asked to give a sample of your saliva in the tube that is provided. You will then have to register sample tube using its bar code. Using the pre-paid packages, mail the saliva sample back to 23andMe's lab and wait for your results. It t typically takes anywhere between 6 to 8 weeks to get email notification. Then simply log in and view your personal genetic ancestry test. After logging in, you will also have access to additional web based tools and features.

    These personalized health reports meet the Federal Drug Administraion's requirements and will give you a look at your own genetic health risks such as Celiac's, Late Onset Alzheimers' and Parkinson's disease. There will also be reports for your carrier status of certain things like cystic fibrosis, sickle cell anemia or hereditary hair loss.
    The report will also cover general wellness and covers things like deep sleep, lactose intolerance and your genetic weight.

    This gives you insight into health problems you may not even know you had or are at risk of.

    Your results will provided you with 15+ reports about your personal genetic traits. These will covers topics such as unibrow, hairloss and sweet vs. Salty.

    There are also many other genetic traits that you may learn about.

  • Ancestry

    This part will provide you with 5 reports on your ancestry. You will learn things about what your ancestry is composed of and what regions your ancestors came from. You'll get to see detailed percentages from different regions around the world.

    There will also be a report on your haplogroup which is defined as a genetic population who all share a common ancestor. You will also find out a little bit about your neanderthal ancestry.

    With this test you get to trace Your timeline through history and discover when different ancestries were introduced into your DNA.

    23andMe have guidelines and policies in place to help protect your DNA and personal information. They will not share any information without your explicit consent
    23andME adhere to and support the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act which keeps them from sharing your information with employers or health insurance companies.
