Offices, dorm rooms, or hotel rooms with nothing but a small fridge and microwave are all places where having something like this would give you a quick and simple meal that is still healthy.
The unit is not very large in size. You cannot sit sandwiches side by side. Its size indicates that things like chicken breasts and steaks would have to be cooked individually. Due to the shallow pan and open sides, moisture will escape which will make the food dry inside, not juicy and tender.
The channels on the product are meant to help remove some of the grease and fat, but remember that this alone does not make your food healthier. Meats and such soaked in oils or marinades already soaked up those unhealthy ingredients. Cooking on a grill or the Grill Wave and watching some of it drip off does not mean it is any healthier. Said cooking process does not make your food any healthier for you. Only you can make your food healthier by picking healthier foods.
How it's Different from Competitors
This design is really a more efficient version of previous market options. There are other microwave grills on the market. Over a decade ago the Ronco Grill was introduced but did not do well. Perfect Micro Grill has a similar dual grill design but is not highly reviewed. More effective than most is the Microhearth Grill Pan. This is a slightly different layout and offers a deep dish designs so that foods remain moist, an option that does not really work with the open design of the GrillWave.

How to Use (Step by Step)
- Add Foods

- Grill Cooking
When you cook on a grill you transfer the heat from your gas flame, wood flame, or charcoal embers to your food. Each process produces slightly different tastes because the molecules from said heat source attach themselves to the food.
Additionally, this becomes even more evident when you are using very specific woods such as hickory wood, maple, or oak to prepare your foods. Called the Maillard Reaction, once a temperature exceeds 285 degrees on a normal grill there is a reaction that occurs between amino acids. This action reduces sugars and leaves a golden brown color. What’s more, it leaves a unique flavor behind.
- Microwave Cooking
When you use a microwave, it uses a form of radiation which excites molecules, forcing them to produce thermal energy, or heat. Regular grills cook foods from the outside in, while microwave heat cooks from the inside out. As such, microwaves cook quickly.
However, it also means that by the time the outside is done, the inside is dehydrated and tough, especially for meat. So, with the Grill Wave, you get the same grill marks that a grill gives, but you do not get the Maillard reaction, nor the unique flavors associated therein. The food will not taste like it was grilled nor will it have the same texture.
Tips & Tricks
- Do Not Use on Pizza
Do not use this for pizza or anything with cheese exposed on top. The top grill pan with which you cover your food will end up sticking to the cheese, probably burning it or melting it to the top. This will ruin your pizza and make it harder to clean the unit.
- Use Solo
Cooking is best done when you use it on single meals at a time, not whole meals. The advertisements show things like full steak meals or salmon meals. While preparing one filet with veggies is possible, more than one serving at a time is not.
