Warnings

  • Do Not Use Cooking Spray

Infomercial

The Gotham Steel infomercial claims that nothing will stick to this pan and everything slides right out of it. During the infomercial parmesan cheese is melted directly in the pan and it just slides right out. The same thing happened when a Smores dip was put in the oven. It was made up of chocolate chips, milk and marshmallows which are placed in the oven and the whole concoction slides right out of the pan. If you need even more convincing about this pan then here it is. Three peppermints are melted in the pan with their plastic wrappers on and they can be wiped right out of the pan - nothing sticks.

How Non-Stick Works

The most popular non-stick cookware surface consists of a thin layer of Teflon, also known as polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). Recently health concerns have been raised over the use of PTFE, thus most manufactures duplicate it's properties with an alternative fluoropolymer.

Gotham Steel Pans are PFOA and PFOS-free.

Regardless of what combination of materials, metals, or coatings a pan uses; they stop food from sticking to the surface is by preventing bonding at a molecular level. Such bonding naturally occurs under high-heat conditions.

Remember: Any pan will stick, it is the coating applied to the pan which prevents sticking.

Sticks After 9 Uses?

No! It does not stick after 9 uses. Truth be told, there is no magic number of times the pan can be used before losing its non-stick qualities. There have been a number of real customer reviews (as seen below) which state the pan stuck for them on the very first use; while others claim to have used the pan flawlessly for over a month. It's Not a Miracle Pan; you get what you pay for.

How to Season Gotham Steel Pan

It is commonly known that cast Iron pans need to be seasoned.

However, it is also recommended to season non-stick pans as well.

Nonstick coatings wear off with time. Seasoning will significantly help extend the life of nonstick pans!

Seasoning helps to fill in any pits or inconsistencies that have developed in the finish. Often times there exist blemishes which are invisible to the naked eye.

Most non-stick pans come pre-seasoned and ready for use; however, re-seasoning a pan will confirm that the process was conducted properly rather than reliying on the process completed at mass by the factory.

What you'll need to season a non-stick pan:
- Water
- Teaspoon
- Paper towel
- Soap
- Cooking Oil
- Stove Top

Seasoning Instructions

  • Wash

    - Wash the pan using warm water with a mild dish soap. Do not scrub the pan.
Ensure to use a soft, non abrasive cloth.
This will remove any particles or debris that could interfere with the seasoning process.

  • Dry

    - Thoroughly dry the pan with a clean paper towel. Ensure not to just move the water around into smaller areas.
Continually switch for new paper towel until you are able to wipe everywhere on the pan and absorb any water.

  • Heat

    - Place the pan on a stove top. Set the temperature to low for approximately 30 seconds.

  • Remove from Heat

    - Remove the pan from the heat source and turn off the stove top.

  • Add Oil

    - Measure-out one tablespoon of oil and pour it into the cooling / recently heated pan while it is still warm.
    - Cooking or vegetable oil is recommended specifically for non-stick cooking surfaces.
    - Gently spread the oil around the pan to evenly coat the entire surface.

  • Wait

    - Allow the oil to dry for several minutes. The oil will form a thick consistency once it cools down.

  • Repeat

    - Repeating this seasoning process every few months will help to maintain the pan's integrity.

Conclusion

  • Have realistic expectations.
  • Read real customer reviews, not just website reports.
  • Educate yourself on pan care.

With today's technology, most pans which cost between $20-$40 each will equally perform. As Seen on TV pans are no different. Pans such as Gotham Steel, Orgreenic, Red Copper, or Slip Stone all work great if they are properly cared for. Do not expect a $20 pan to be invincible, or last a life time.

Decide what you want:

a. If you want a pan that will last for years purchase the most expensive T-Fal set you can find; but don't expect your eggs to be sliding 'As Seen on TV'. Also even T-Fal pans will quickly start to stick if they are not properly used and cared for.

b. If you want the As Seen on TV effect of a frying pan which appears as slick as ice; treat it properly, educate yourself on pan care and don't expect it to last a life time.

End State:
1. You get what you pay for.
2. The pan is worth the price.
3. Any cookware will fail if not cared for.

I Love It

I bought a 9.5 pan and the following month bought the large pan with two handles and I love both, so yesterday, I bought the square pan that comes with the steamer plate and basket. Next month I want to get the square pan for grilling. I don't understand why so many people in the states are having problems with theirs. I buy mine from Shawcase. If I had problems with mine, you better believe they would get it back. I'm in Canada.

THEY SUCK

Bought two at walmart 3-4 months ago. Seasoned as directed. Used as directed. Washed as directed. Today I have eggs of stuck to the bottom one and the other inside is scratched to which everything sticks. Walmart will not honor the lifetime replacement guarantee which means I have to pay postage to get them back to Gotham Steel plus a handling fee. This is bullshit its only to pay for the replacement unit. I get charged twice for something with a lifetime guarantee. Walmart should be the go between to handle the replacement. My rating as most of the others is minus 1.

12.5" Pan Not Good

We have a 12.5 inch frying pan that we have used maybe 10 times. It is a piece of Junk, it's full of scratches and everything sticks to it. We have tried to get the black residue off but it looks like it is actually stained in some areas of the coating, the rest can only be removed with a stiff brush and even then it doesn't all come off. We also have a red copper pan that we use and treat in the same manner as this pan and have no problem at all. We called Gotham Steel and they told us because it's older then 90 days we need to send it back to the manufacturer we pay $9.95 both ways for shipping. We see no reason the spend $19.90 for another useless pan. We wonder what material we ingested from the scratches.

WOW Unbelievable

If you are from canada, do not buy over the phone. When I phoned. The guy on the other end told me it was in canadian funds. It was being sent from ontario canada. We were on the phone for quite awhile; as he was trying to reassure me that I would be paying in canadian funds. So I purchased it on his word. Not until I received the bill. Did I find out I was billed in foreign currency. So much for honesty. I wonder how many others got sucked into this. Do the TV stations know or even care how people are getting ripped off. While they advertise all this Junk. Yes. I say Junk, because it does not work as advertised. if some liquid or oil is added, it works fine. But otherwise it sticks and burns! So shame on the television channels and all the people involved in selling this stuff for duping the public. Oh yes. Where is the receipt. Never got one. Once duped. Twice shy. Never ever again!

I Regret Spending ANYTHING on This Pan

This pan has stuck from day one. Doesn't matter what I am cooking. Eggs stick and break. The only good thing is that you can use metal on it. But I have plenty of pans that don't stick that I can use metal on. I have to use oil or butter. Sticks every time. What a waste of time and money.

Scratched up my Ceramic Stove Top

I just used this pan for the first time and immediately saw that my ceramic stove cook top was all scratched up because of the way the bottom of the pan has thick steel rings that completely damaged my black ceramic stove top with many scratches. It's going back and I'm furious!

I have a Question

When I received my Gotham Steel pan and grill it came with a "Arbitration Agreement" pamphlet. It tells you that by ordering this product I agree that any dispute between me and Gotham Steel concerning the product shall be settled by binding individual arbitration. Etc. My question is, what is this all about? Is there something really wrong with these pans that they have to send you this notice along with the product?

Yes. There is something wrong with the pans. They do not work as advertised. AT all. Please pack the things up and send them back for a refund. Even if they work the first time, they will not work as advertised after a short amount of use. Mine never worked as advertised from day one. That's my advise and as far as I can tell, almost everyone who got these pans, hate them.

What it means is that you sign off on unqualified replacement once purchased. They basically are telling you that they will not last as advertised and that you can buy new ones, but don't try to get replacement without paying. It's a scam!

Nice planted reviews, praising the pans. So fake. The pans are garbage and the commercial is a huge scam. Don't waste your money. If you want a great pan, get a cast iron pan or skillet, learn to to care for it and treat it, and it will last you forever.

I have the 12.5 inch pan. I did everything per instructions. Never using any metal spatula on it even and everything in it is sticking and plus it has warped. I have had it less then a month.
Good luck in finding a customer service phone number. There is on where I have found to talk with someone about it and get my money back.
I have searched and searched to find someone that I can talk to on the phone and I have as of yet to find anyone. I for one will never ever buy one again.
I cannot find a Customer Service Phone number anywhere.

The only pan that ever needs seasoning is a cast iron skillet. These are ceramic and titaniam No seasoning. With these pans they work best with nothing and I usually season when it is in the pan.
