Goal diggers lets children discover real birthstones in a fun and educational fashion. Children can dig at the top, dig at the side, and dig around until they find the unique gemstone buried inside. What’s more, children can discover and collect unique stones like Peacock or, Dalmatian Jasper, red Jasper, unakite, and Tigers eye. Kids have to dig deeply into the hand sized circular rock in order to find the small gemstone inside. There's a magnifying glass shown in the kit that you will need in order to really get a close look.
Total Cost Breakdown
- Different Stones
There is a set of 12 amazing hexagem birthstones from which to choose. If you know your children's birthday, you can certainly find the month that fits their birth. Of course you can always work to help them collect all 12 months.
- Individual Gems
January is a Garnet. February is amethyst. March is aquamarine. April is a diamond. May is in Emerald. June is alexandrite. July is a ruby. August is peridotite. September is Sapphire. October is tourmaline. November is topaz in December is Tanzanite.
There is an explorer brush used to clean the stone after you find it and a digging tool to help you dig through the glittery gym. With a magnifying glass you can take a closer look at your stone and then keep track of which ones you have identified. This really is a fun and educational gift for someone who is interested in things like archaeology because it gives them hands-on practice. Some might argue that the fact that it's a mystery as to which stone you will receive makes it all the more exciting for kids and adults.
- Two Sizes
There is a normal sized unit and a miniature unit. Obviously the miniature unit is about half the size and still contains the same gym. Miniature units might be more exciting for younger children.
- Cannot Pick Your Stone
You don't actually get to pick the gemstone that you want. If, for example, your child was born in July and you are trying to get the July gemstone, you can't guarantee a purchase of the July gemstone. The way it works is that you have a one in five chance of getting the stone that you want.
There are other stones that you might get like a Moonstone, Jasper, or, tigers, and more. Given the wide array of options, it still makes it a fun adventure to go through and try to collect the different stones. However it does mean that you will pay a lot more in order to hopefully get your child's birth stone.
While you do have the ability to collect many different stones and enjoy the digging process, they are quite small. The containers in which the stones arrive are no bigger than the average tennis ball or baseball. You have to open the top and then dig inside with tiny tools in order to find the stones that are located inside. Their stones located inside are quite small so while it is an incredible process it won't take long.
Your younger children might enjoy this more than older kids. Younger kids can hold the smaller tools and find that everything is better proportioned to their size. Older kids however will be able to dig away at the glittery hexagem really quickly and find the stone inside.
- Birthstone Advertisement
The company emphasizes to a great degree that these are all about birthstones. They even go so far as to describe what each of the 12 months have for a correlating birthstone. This is very misleading given the fact that the majority of the units they sell do not actually have these birthstones. They have special collections of unique stones which is fun but they have many more unique stones than they do birthstones.
