- Records a Lot
It offers a wide angle, which is what helps to collect more data, and it can record for up to 14 hours.
This camera comes with a time and date stamp so you always have accurate information.
The camera offers instant replay so drivers can instantly see if they did something wrong, if they were at fault in an accident, or if their kids were doing something wrong in the back seat.
- Worth the Cost
This particular device seems great in theory and does not seem to have functionality problems, so much as potential legal problems. It has a 32 GB SD memory card which you can replace to hold higher amounts of memory if you so choose. The cost of that SD card is actually a good portion of the cost of the camera which makes it quite a good deal financially.
- Not 360
As a dashboard camera, it can be mounted anywhere in the car and from there, will record 120 degrees. The company website markets it as a 360 degree camera, one which can record in front of and behind the car. While it is true that it has the ability to record in those areas, it is misleading to believe that the camera always records in those areas. Rather, the camera can face one way or the other, but has a pivoting mount which allows consumers to change direction. So, you might record the roadway behind you, but then have to move the camera to get the roadway in front of you. If you are in an accident and your camera is not facing the right way that time, then it does you no good.
The camera turns on automatically as your ignition starts up, which helps consumers avoid forgetting to turn it on each time. It also means they run the risk of forgetting it is recording and forgetting to inform others.
The device naturally loops so it continually records. This means that if you want to go back and review something from a few weeks ago, you might have recorded over it if you have driven for more than 14 hours since that event. Such an outcome might prevent you from being able to use the data retrieved in an investigation or insurance claim if they submit the report to you late or if you drive a lot.
With the high risk of serious police problems and abuses today, having cameras has proven somewhat helpful in drawing public attention to the issues. However, they have not necessarily helped matters from a legal standpoint. Almost all cases of police abuses caught on camera result in a two week suspension for the officer in question and a simple reinstatement. That being said, consumers need to know that having this will help them capture the data from any scene taking place, but not necessarily help them in all legal cases. Simply having the issue or event on camera does not mean authority figures will use it or respect it.
If you are recording you are legally required to inform everyone who is recorded ( such as passengers or the officer who pulls you over ) that you are filming. The reason for this is because it has audio. You cannot legally record audio without telling people first that you are doing so. This gives them the chance to leave so that they are not recorded. When calling a customer service hotline it has a recording informing you that they are recording. They usually do it for training, but they are warning you so that you can hang up.
If you are pulled over and you tell the police officer at the beginning that you have the camera and he or she is being recorded, they might not react well to that. This negative reaction has previously been caught on camera. So consumers need to be aware that they must legally inform, but in doing so they might get into additional trouble.
